I was kind of excited and had to look it up, this being just a wip means there won't be anything of quality using it for at least 1-2 years after this shit is out.
Honestly no clue how would this make sense anyway, you're already being restricted from crafting shit if you don't have the ingredients/tools so adding a timer on top of that might be odd.

No one does mod tutorials anymore. Mod trailers are now basically mod showcases which show everything the mods have to offer. Do you prefer it that way?
Anonymous No.542804114 [Report]
>>542803359
I think it stems from there just being so many mods now that the community can't make enough tutorials to cover them all and the mod makers themselves mostly do marketing for their mods instead of any useful information. Also I feel like mods have been siloed off into a few major mods with the smaller ones being ignored.
Anonymous No.542805052 [Report]
>>542803359
Mods should have their documentation as text publicly accessible on their github.
The only two circumstances that I've ever looked at a "tutorial"/"showcase" has been because the mod didn't provide adequate documentation for their features: nuclearcraft heat exchangers and the fucking retarded left/right click controls of pedestals.

Somebody asked for GTNH pics so here it is.

Just put the steam separator into operation, had to expand the boiler to make up for the extra steam.

Run is progressing smoothly, i managed to score a One Ring from a surface chest while exploring one of the early days (currently on 49) and used it to loot a bunch of towers, got a couple division sigils and wasted no time crafting a healing axe. I also managed to score a bunch of advanced metals so i could rush good tools, sadly repair materials are starting to run out.

You made me look Emoniph up and holy hell. He was online on Minecraft Forums in March this year. Well, his supposed account was, at least. No posts, no status updates, no anything. This is the first sign of activity in years. There is also a new Reddit account that claims it's Emoniph. No proofs so far. A new CurseForge account has appeared as well that left just one comment under Witchery "Hey guys", ignoring everything else afterwards. Weird stuff. Not really sure what to think of it. Every sign tells me it's a mentally ill larper starving for attention. Hell, is the Minecraft Forums account even his? It was made in 2019, like 4 years after his disappearance. I really hope Emoniph is alive and doing well, but I honestly doubt it. The community would welcome the guy with open arms if he provided any proof at all, but there is none.

a) you're not allowed to use his shit in public packs without his explicit permission. modern pack authors are whole hog disciples of the idea of intellectual property because they want their 0.002 cents ad revenue from curseforge, so they act like licensing aren't just legally binding from a natural law of the universe that cannot be broken captcha: M(o)RONS
b) his mods are only on 1.7.10, the only pack still on that version is GTNH. the only way you'll get reika mods is toymy.

Yeah i guess it was a lucky find but i looted about 4-5 of those obsidian circles with pillars and a chest in the middle and found the ring in one of those.

I explored quite a bit too to find all of those, got about 3 mage towers, 2 pyramids, 6-7 villages and 2 slime islands in the same time. Also looting all those dungeons really gives you a big headstart, having access to damascus or vanadium steel and normal steel really helps with early good crafting tools and backpacks.

Well, one cupronikel pyro oven fuels 9.3 bronze boilers which outputs 1.8 EV amp, which should last me a good long while, and by then I'll upgrade to HV steel boilers which I think doubles the power, that plus a second pyro oven should comfortably take me into IV, and I think I can just build nuclear reactors at that point. Or maybe distilling charcoal or some shit into coal gas will become viable.
I don't get the point of diesel fuels.

>need to breed the optimal bee's stats into the specific bee
>need pristine queens (so your hives can run forever)
>need alvearies (the big boy apiaries for automation, a resource sink but hoooo boy can those pump out combs when set up right)
>alvearies dont need frames, innately at least. if you want to speed up production you can set up automation for them. but the modpack probably includes other ways to do so...
from there, scaling up is as simple as getting more queens and breeding them into copies of your current producing queens
power product bees definitely shouldnt be the endgame supplier, but they'll help you produce much more valuable resources so it's probably a good idea to get working on them sooner rather than later.

To be fair factorio inherently has a different balancing, but there's nothing preventing a mod from rebalancing minecraft to be more factorio-like.
You mainly need early and reliable auto-mining and early and reliable auto-crafting, and research suddenly makes sense. Now progress is no longer gated behind "manually mine five stacks of metal and craft six different machines to manage the different plates and rods and bolts and then microcraft it all together to obtain the seventh machine that gives you the ability to microcraft even more and thus obtain the eighth machine", but behind research and behind scaling your autocrafting and automining.

HBM, Lycanites and MCA are the core mods
Matter Overdrive for additional scifi stuff
ICBM for more damrage
Highlands as worldgen
Grey cube mods for their pipes if they become necessary
Twilight forest for endgame damage test

Prease recommend mods that make the overworld prettier, more diverse or more dangerous. Should not actively clash with the setting. If terrain/biome mod, only if compatible with Highlands. No infernal mobs.

Aether II has been semi-dead for quite a while since the original dev left to become a developer at Mojang. After that, the modding team also diminished slowly.

And now even those are currently at risk of getting dethroned because the Erebus dev revived development for 1.21 so it's getting ported again too.

The term "total conversion" isn't really used much in Minecraft modding. Typically, people combine lots of smaller mods, configure them so they all they play nicely together, and ship the result as a "modpack". There are also "alternative timeline" mods that build upon old versions of the game, away from modern additions, often leaning towards the sandbox aspect of the game and staying true to its core. And there are mods that are so big that you can spend dozens of hours on them alone, or drastically change vanilla progression (like this one here >>543149583). What do you want, exactly?

Thanks for the info. Tekkit and Hexxit both seem to be mods from roughly all the way back when I stopped playing in the first place over a decade ago. Has there really been no positive progress on this sort of thing since? It sort of defeats the purpose of me coming back to find out what new heights have been reached, only to go straight back to 2013 or whenever.
I don't mind being overwhelmed, I don't know how likely I am to go on to other modpacks and things anyway so I was intending to do a big one that'd have a bunch of stuff. The description seemed to make out that there was some sort of overarching quest and systems tying and balancing them together though, but maybe not, it doesn't sound great if it's just unrelated stuff thrown together.

only modpack that does the same "loads of mods but tightly integrated" thing well imo is GTNH but it's based heavily around gregtech and balanced in a kind of player-unfriendly way so not for everyone and probably not the best intro to things (also pretty grindy but at least there's stuff like nei 'autocrafting' now and they're trying to fix the endgame). Tbh I'd second the other guy's recommendations if you're just getting into things, although I could try to recommend some newer packs I find fun if you know more precisely what you're looking for; a lot of newer modpack development is focused around interconnected, balanced overhauls rather than more kitchen sink type stuff where it fits together fairly well.

my personal favorite newer pack is star technology, GT skyblock for one of the newest versions and my personal favorite approach to generating resources from nothing because there are a lot of varied lines and logistics challenges to keep on top of. As for a couple other newer packs I'd say reclamation (very strongly themed pack with a pretty solid questbook and unique progression) and wold's vaults (overhaul of a different modpack called vault hunters 3 that attempts to fix a lot of the jank, I personally recommend using the ingame configs to turn crystal requirements down if not off entirely if it starts to bug you, having to fish around for random shit in the overworld to do the dungeons the pack is based around is the antithesis of fun) are both pretty good; I've also recently looked into one called compression that seems cool but I haven't had the chance to play since I'm running a chromaticraft toymy right now. There are also a handful of good create packs (above and beyond, arcane engineering, astral) since that's the big new tech mod but they can be pretty polarizing and I've too much create fatigue right now to fully try them all. In terms of stuff you should also avoid like the plague that gets shilled like hell I'd say to avoid the beyond packs (beyond depth, beyond ascension, etc.), they're overhyped and slapped together garbage.

>cobblestone only drops from mining stone 25% of the time, on the plus side you can use fortune to get more cobble per stone

Anonymous No.543179282 [Report] >>543179429 >>543180278

Your steam infrastructure might not be up to snuff.
Five high pressure liquid boilers produce enough steam for two LV turbines.
Also LV wires are 32 eu/t max, I think, which would mean that you can't run more than 32 eu/t across them at any given point, I think. I don't really know how gregtech power works.
Try unlinking your turbines and spreading out the machines across them.

Not really. Procedurally generated worlds make for inherently poor exploration. You basically need to design areas that have drastically different gameplay and challenges. Valheim comes to mind: each biome is basically a separate difficulty and if you try to skip ahead you get absolutely raped, so you have a progression path where each biome opens up in sequence, and you have to extract the biome specific resource, gear yourself up, find the biome boss spawn point and defeat the boss and then you'll be powerful enough to survive and progress in the next biome.

It's still imperfect and a large part of the exploration aspect comes from the world being pretty huge and sailing being almost necessary to reach more distant biomes. However even so once you've seen one instance of the biome, you've seen them all, and there's no incentive to explore more; you'll explore one forest, one mountain, one plain, one swamp etc. And the structures and dungeons and stuff that spawn in the biomes are also pretty samey so you either visit them for mandatory progression trinkets or you just methodically raze them to the ground for loot; the wonders of "exploration" get old pretty quickly once you're min-maxing dismantling swamp dungeons for iron ore because you need to grind out five stacks of it and you've already cleared half a dozen identical crypts.
And yet still, Valehim is one of the better procedurally-generated exploration games that I know of.

Honestly, now that I'm thinking about it, I'm surprised I haven't seen any valheim-like exploration mods for minecraft. Mobs already naturally have biome spawn restrictions, you'd just need to design an appropriate level of progression to guide players into exploring biomes one after another, with well designed enemy types and a progression of loot and equipment.

Though you make a good point in that TF might well be the closest thing we have. It's not actually THAT boring the very first time you're playing though it. It's just somewhat devoid of content, you can boss rush in a couple of hours and then that's that

Like I said earlier if you were trying to send too much through a wire it would just die.
Also voltage and amps are different things. Generally, machines which need a certain voltage (e.g. 128 eu/t, MV) can't just take 4 LV amps; you'd need to use a transformer to convert 4x32eu/t into 1x128eu/t. It's not "rolling back", each version exists independently and a lot of the vanilla updates are very mediocre. I never get it when people (not you) search for mods or modpacks on some autistically specific version. You pick a mod(pack) that you like and under the hood it just uses the minecraft version it was desgined for, simple as.
Plenty of people still writing mods, for various versions from the past and present depending on their preferences, and many mods even get ported by other people to more versions than the author developed it for. The latest vanilla version is not in any way special.

Any backport mod would just cause issues with older mods like thaumcraft 4 and require you to dig through configs to fix them. I'd suggest just grabbing thaumcraft 4 with most of its' addons and some of the complementing mods like witchery.
>Is there anything more recent you guys like
Thaumcraft 6 for 1.12.2 has been shaping up for a number of years to be the second best version of thaumcraft and by extension the 2nd I've always struggled to get into witchery. best magic mod if you're including addons. Augmentation, fix and the multiple ports of addons from 1.7.10 breathed a lot of life into this version. The biggest issue is that Azanor quit around this time so there's very little compatibility with other mods aspect wise. Magic mods past this point tend to suck and not be worth bothering with.

I.e. if I want pale garden and the ghast on my 1.20.1 setup, I'd get a backport mod yeah, but say I get a texture pack that's meant for 1.21 whatever, would that just be plug and play or nah. Probably not the case right?

For that matter, I assume worldgen mods like WWOO that's setup for 1.21+ that revamps the new biomes, or mods that modifies the structures of trial chambers, that wouldn't work either right? At least not without tinkering?

Nope. I've played every weapon mod. They all implement spears as "sword but with longer reach" or "sword but with longer reach that you can throw". None of them implement the couching mechanic, a custom attack animation (you have to download an entirely separate mod for that), the lunge enchantment, etc. Mojang are better at making new weapons than mod devs.

Yeah, textures is mostly a matter of faffing about with files and folders.
You know how resource packs are normally assets/minecraft/whatever?
You'll want assets/whateverthemodis/whatever.
Basically, you want to open the backport jar as a zip, and navigate through the "assets" folder to figure out the paths to the textures you want to replace.
Then replicate those paths in the resouce path, and put the replacement textures at the end of them.

rocket jumping and bhopping are useful in actual quake gameplay since it gives you an edge over enemy gamers, rocket jumping for example takes you out of the effective range of other people, which lets you rain down hell from above.
meanwhile minecraft's weapon movement options are completely useless outside of "get from A to B as quickly as possible"
the mace's jump? all that does is take you further away from the enemies.
the spear's dash? exclusively for getting a few blocks closer to an enemy. at which point it'd probably be faster to keep sprinting. it'll never be an organic choice.
the trident's lunge? kickstarting your elytra, otherwise its too unreliable to use consistently due to the water reliance.

Nah I agree wholesale into your original argument. Minecraft combat is dogshit, most combat mods are just reskinned swords that add nothing interesting, Mojang making new weapons that focus on fun utility/mobility is better than also just releasing reskinned swords, that's all coherent. That's a good set of points that are hard to argue.
It's just immediately scuttling the argument by launching into some random bad faith me-more-minecraft-than-you bullshit makes it reek of autism.
At least pivot to saying a different general weapon type is superior, like why make a sword when the axe is right there. The idea that making a general tool is "stupid" because you can instead have 20 unitaskers completely ignores the comparative practicality of just using a fuckin' sword. Time is valuable too, making a sword saves me a shit ton of time over lighting up entire chunks or preparing the exact selection of cheese for whatever incoming combat encounter there is

soo it works, but is a little janky. other than this shitboat I made in few minutes not having a rudder and barely flying, the maids' targeting is weird. I think if they're locked onto the same target, only one of them fires. another flight after this webm for example had the machine gun maid going crazy while the autocannon and howitzer maids never fired, even though I didn't change anything.
perhaps a second human as 'fire control specialist' who changes maids jobs to toggle them one after another would let them all select different targets
still, very cool.

I remember BuildCraft Builder eating blueprints and assembling structures, and Ancient Warfare having a similar block as well. None of them are drones though. The only one with drones is OpenComputers with its programmable robots, at least to my knowledge. There is a program that converts .schematic files to blueprints that can be given to robots for automatic construction. A more gamey implementation (besides Factorio-inspired modpacks that came later) is Golem Factory. It's an old and extremely underrated map-based pack where you automate Thaumcraft golems on a factory, deliver various shipments to earn quicksilver (money), and purchase upgrades & new machines to access higher speeds & higher grade shipments. Each shipment has a little story to go with it, which is very cute.

1. The conduits are ugly, way too small, out of place, fiddly, and boring. (Thanks, Dire, for making a replacement that is even more soulless & fiddly mandatory inclusion in every FTB modpack.)
2. The teleport warp waypoint thingies aren't too bad.

>add insane hunger and diminishing returns tedium
>add insane pam's harvestcraft tedium
>also add an item that instantly nullifies literally all of that
>the expected way to get it is to min-max the fuck out of the pam's tedium
Yeah nah why is this in a tech pack?
I can buy most of the GTNH grindiness as "it feels sucky at first so upgrades feel truly meaningful". You can't double ore for a while so your first macerator is a breakthrough, you gotta mine for a while so hammers are a big breakthrough and eventually autominers are actually very valuable, steam age machines need double the ingots for plates so going to LV is a massive upgrade for everything, water blocks aren't infinite so you have to use the (early game) automation for renewable water, etc. etc.

But the food thing makes early game needlessly miserable, and they didn't even tie it to tech progression. Like I get it if you had to build a cooking for blockheads kitchen at first to make some proper food, then at steam age you could make canned food for example that avoids diminishing returns entirely. Then you could justify the shitty hunger mechanics. But pam's and the healing axe quest, and the actual tech non-pam's method being fucking HV, is inexcusable. And no exploration doesn't help either, it's also a non-tech method, why would I want to prioritise looting a bazillion shitty dungeons as my main method of solving hunger in my tech pack.

I think it has some cool utilities. The dark steel enchanter and experience obelisks are excellent QoL, the farming station is one of my favourite to use and doesn't choke on weird crops or high throughput trees. The equipment is really good in terms of both protection and utility, if you're not in a pack with lots of equipment focus then having dark steel and then end steel tools+armour is great (and nicely balanced stepping stones to draconic equipment if you have DE). The travel anchor is fucking invaluable.

Conduits are extremely versatile and great to use in a kitchen sink pack, but IMO detract from gregtech if used together. GT pipes and covers are more than enough and require a bit more thought than "here's 16 colour coded channels to route as you please lol". The only QoL advantage conduits have is sharing a blockspace between all three types.

Sag mill and the other generic tech shit are neat for kitchen sink modpacks, kinda irrelevant in a greg pack, don't care about soul binding or the vat and brewing and all the other mechanics there, this is very much the "just another tech mod" component. But it's well made, convenient and fast and powerful, so nice to use in a kitchen sink like I said.

Grains of infinity are absolute filler, it's cool the first time you craft it and after that becomes a chore. Yes I know you can automate them but I've never needed so many that just grabbing five flints and steel and making a trip to bedrock hasn't been enough for almost all of my needs.

Okay that's fair but I also don't like that, the questbook shouldn't be a core part of progression. The rewards should be small nice to haves that makes things a little bit easier or less tedious, not a key part of gameplay. It's still very much a case of they feed you poison so they can then feed you their cure - why not remove the diminishing returns entirely OR make it solveable, through normal gameplay no quest or cheese fuckery, in steam.

If you never crafted food then it's not a "small nice to have" it skips a large part of the progression/gameplay.
Basically if you didn't have the quest rewards, would your game have meaningfully changed? If a quest gives you 16 steel or a stack of copper or two LV circuits, the answer is no, you'd have just needed to mine for 10 more minutes or microcraft for 5 more minutes. But in your case, the answer is that you'd have had to get into food crafting, probably pam's, maybe even gone for the healing axe quest.
