And ultimately the one to blame should be 343. There's no reason why the anniversary editions have to be bundled together. If other games can separate hi-reztextures and models (hell, even infinite has an ultra quality hd texture dlc you don't have to download) then there's no reason MCC can't either. Not to mention, you guys are clammering for Halo 3 Anniversary, and then when we do finally get it, you're gonna cry about how the art style got ruined, how bad the performance is, and that no one is playing the Anniversary edition of the multiplayer (See Halo 2 Anniversary.) You guys already know how this all ends, and yet you're pretending like it's going to be the best thing ever.

And then it will be forever ruined with an overblown installation size that you will never be able to uninstall if you ever want to go back and play the classic version on MCC. I just play like normal, then go into theater mode and look for cool stuff that might have happened during the match.

It's different from campaign or multiplayer because there's potentially more sandbox interactions happening at any given time, and the player doesn't need to be around for them to happen. Campaign is curated for the player where the AI is limited in their actions, so what you experience is mostly intended by the level designers. And Multiplayer requires players to do something for anything to happen, but the interactions are mostly in the goal of competitiveness and trying to play efficiently, so most of the players' actions will be similar, but with varying levels of skill, meaning not every part of the sandbox gets used (like dual-wielding) and even certain vehicles/weapons will be ignored (Like the Prowler).

It's just a different experience than what you can get in the other modes, and I just think it's so cool how people were able to craft such complex systems and actually have them work and do all this crazy stuff. I think Ultimate Firefight does a really good job of showcasing those systems in a different way than how you would normally experience them in campaign or multiplayer.

It's important to have the correct mindset about campaign v multiplayer. That being that a true Halo game is a campaign experience first and foremost.
I'd be perfectly fine with the CE remake having firefight or some other PvE mode as its "multiplayer" offering for this reason.
Halo CE/1 had multiplayer thrown in the game in the last few months of development for the same reason any multiplayer was in a console game at the time, it was just expected to be there. The campaign WAS the game, and the multiplayer was extra. Now, it did turn out to be really good and pretty addicting, but it's important to understand that this existed in mostly a party game atmosphere. Yes, there were comp tournaments, but they are not representative of the average Halo CE multiplayer session.
Halo 2, or really rather Xbox Live, changed this, and set this unrealistic standard of Halo multiplayer being the face of the series. It was never meant to last, but it stuck, even as CoD 4 and onwards drained the popularity 3 years later.

tl;dr
A PVE-only game is sorely needed at this point to correct this wrongdoing and artificial ballooning of Halo's multiplayer to be its core identity.

Custom slayer matches versus bots (fiesta, team slayer, classic movement with BR starts, same but with DMR starts or plasma pistol starts, swords only, shotty snipers, Quake-style, etc., and at different difficulty levels on different maps)

I used to play regular firefight a lot during the Reach days, but nowadays the maps feel a bit cramped and I prefer the variety of Ultimate Firefight. It's also nice that I can finally play ODST firefight through matchmaking. And occasionally I will try 4v4 team slayer or FFA slayer and be pleasantly surprised with how fun it is, but then it quickly gets too sweaty and I go back to BTB or UFS. I used to play ranked for 2 or 3 matches every day religiously on Xbox 360 for Halo 3, but I was always angry and stressed out after playing, so nowadays I try to avoid competitive modes (especially CTF and Assault, oh man do those modes get me mad especially if I'm trying my hardest but my teammates decide to throw the match because they felt like trolling with the flag all of a sudden instead of scoring or they just roll over during the last 30 seconds even when we had such a good lead).

Keep in mind, all the sandbox stuff is also in other modes, not just the campaign/firefight, but I think you can experience a lot by just trying out different modes and mods. Currently I just like how much variety Ultimate Firefight has despite it being a bit unpolished. And since there's more stuff on the screen, there's higher chances of crazy physics or AI stuff happening. You can get that in pvp too but it's rare since everyone's actions are more calculated and we've all been playing for so long so it's more predictable how matches play out. But Big Team Battle is always fun because of the extended sandbox of vehicles and weapons. You don't really have vehicle warfare in the 4v4 or FFA modes, those tend to be more competitive focused. (Unless you're playing Fiesta, which is a great time)

As I've gotten older I've started to see Chief and Cortana as probably intended by Staten to be a little romantic.
But the thing is, I played Halo when I was a clueless pre-pubescent kid. Any romance flew over my head. I saw Chief and Cortana as a boy and his robot.
But on top of this, as I got older and started picking up on the adult side of things, the idea that Cortana is just a robot never really left me.
In fact I kind of feel bad for women if they see Cortana as a self insert in the story - I started picking up on the flirty dialogue between Chief and Cortana after pubterty, but it comes across as bitter sweet.
Chief being this heavily psychologically conditioned cyborg who is probably genuinely incapable of settling down and having any sort of real life after the war, because he really is a man turned into a killing machine, and Cortana being an AI who is incapable of really connecting with him meaningfully beyond caring about his well being.

I'm not sure if you're getting what I'm saying.
The idea that Chief is a cyborg who is only capable of being a killing machine comes from Marathon. Not Halo 4.
If Halo continued Marathon's style of not giving the cyborg any dialogue/silent protagonist, observing the story as it unfolds around him, there would have been no problem, but they gave Chief dialogue, and a cute/sassy/flirty AI sidekick ... which is also fine...
It's fine in the Bungie Halo games because (at least to me, and probably everyone else here is in agreement) they never crossed the line into cringe territory ... but Chief being humanized enough to be a one-liner spouting 80's action hero man laid the groundwork for asking questions about whether he's more than just a cyborg weapon.
As I said, we've got the Joe Staten leaked Halo 2 original ending, which had Chief and Miranda Keyes becoming overt love interests. Staten jokes about Cortana being Chief's mom/girlfriend in several of the vidocs, and in Halo 3 vidocs he overtly talks about Chief rescuing Cortana being a classic damsel in distress scenario.

I'm not *blaming* Staten here, Chief and Cortana in the trilogy is great.
But Halo 4 is an unfortunately logical evolution of the "how does Bungie's killer cyborg power fantasy actually *feel* about things" direction the trilogy was already going in thanks to Staten.
