i mean I read it carefully and knew from the beginning that Mika cant be trusted and she'll be confirmed as the traitor, but it still just felt like 60% was told, 40% was " and now they are in space fighting Jesus, Godzilla and Bill Cosby!" A lot of the lies are just surface level and dont have an impact on the story. I remember one time asking people to explain me Mika's motivations during v3 and like 4 anons gave me a thorough analysis on that: All had similarities, but they all drifted into multiple different ways.

The fact that this is only a problem with this volume just rubs me the wrong way. If someone were to ask for Hoshino's character arc, I bet those 4 anons would be able to explain it with 90% matching events. But only volume 3 requires mental gymnastics, for a lack of a better term, for it all to flow. And if a writer goes "Here is page 1 of my epic story. Here is page 3 of it" and expect me to go "Wow writer, you are so smart I am in awe!", I kinda become stubborn myself.

I mean that's part of the point of the volume. You can't know someone's intentions. Paradise doesn't exist. The lack of a throughline with the narrative is on purpose to drive home the moral of the story, which is, even if we can't be 100% sure of everyone's intentions, it's important to think the best of them. Everyone had "good" intentions throughout the story but they were misconstrued by others and sometimes even themselves until they were made into the monsters that people thought they were.

That being said, Mika's motivations are simple. They are just presented in a nob chronological fashion, which makes people's brains hurt. It's part of what makes her the character that has had the most written about her by far, and why you still occasionally get interesting observations about her even after all these years. A one and done simple character by comparison is boring.

Nagisa had Mika punished, perhaps way too much, she didn't protect her from consequences. Mika even now is still getting punished daily in a way that shows just how dark Trinity can be. Nagisa didn't lose her will when Mika was the traitor, she lost her will when she realized she was mistaken in her initial assessments entirely and everything she did to the Make up work club was misfounded.

Its hard to say Mika was even the traitor; she truly believed Arius and Trinity could come together again, if you read volume 6 nothing Mika believed was wrong at all. The only thing she didn't account on was a devil named Beatrice behind the scenes taking advantage of her good intentions. Beatrice instructed Saori to take advantage of Mika's goodwill, string her along with talks of peace, and then betray her, which Saori admits she did. After Ch4 it should be obvious Mika was entirely delusional with grief the entire time and was lying to herself badly in the first three chapters of volume 3 because she couldn't cope properly, she fabricated her memories. You see the same memory play out a dozen times but it keeps happening differently, something is off about it, because Mika had broke awhile ago even if it wasn't clear, her mind wasn't processing memories correctly, she was an unreliable narrator. Japanese fans realized pretty quickly in the gym scene that Mika was making herself purposefully look like that bad guy taking all the heat on herself so someone else wouldn't be blamed.

Mika earnestly just wanted peace between the two schools, she brought Azusa to Trinity to prove to Nagisa and Seia that Arius could fit in just fine, she thinks life is a fairy tale where the princess can end long held feuds between schools and everyone can be happy. But things blew up on her, and rather than admitting she messed up, she kept rationalizing things to herself that the way things worked out must still be intentional, but it wasn't intentional, she was lying to herself.

Volume 6 alone reveals she's been sending tea party mobs into Arius for months to scout out any Arius grunts she could, to try to convince them to join trinity for a better life where they would be protected. Some of the tea party mobs that go in there don't entirely make it back in one piece, its a dangerous job.
Nagisa fabricates papers for any Arius mobs that join Trintiy, saying they're from the country side, and gives them amenities to live for free
She arranges a meeting with the arius squad to have them go directly into Arius to directly help the students still living there
She also sends Mine into Arius to help deal with things, but she does it discreetly since she doesn't want it to come out she asked her to do it

For me it's mostly just a conflict of motivations. Like, she drags Mika into the situation when she's basically an inch away from getting expelled since she's still on parole. She tells Mika to beat up half the school basically, which I think isn't in character for her to do when you consider how much Nagisa cares for Mika. Even worse with the recent anniversary event when you learn that Nagisa went into politics and practically changed her personality just to protect Mika's smile or whatever. On the one hand it shows how much she values and trusts Mika that she thinks that Mika could deal with the Sisterhood and Remedial Knights all by herself - and it's a cute callback to Hanako saying the entire Sisterhood wouldn't be able to hold Mika back - but it also shows a complete disregard for Mika's situation to the point where it goes into OOC territory for me, despite how funny it is.

She initially gave them the benefit of the doubt and tried to communicate to them a couple of times to clear out the misunderstanding.
