No it fucking doesn't. That's not what the origin of the word hero, hērōs, means. That's not what anyone thinks it refers to colloquially in English either. Hero originally meant someone of superhuman ability and/or courage. Which describes Sonic to a T. Hero colloquially means someone who helps others, which also describes Sonic the Hedgehog perfectly.
I agree Sonic doesn't make it his 9-5 but no one talks about 'heroes' as a 9-5 thing.
