ZZZ writing and pacing at release was pretty good. Maybe for some people a bit too slow of a burn, but I found it very relaxing and their focus clearly was character moments. ZZZ team can write good character moments.
After 1.4 they are responding to feedback from people with 5 second attention span and self insert fantasies and they rush those character moments since they have to spend time at powering up MC, trying to write out TVs and chasing main story. Result is shit. Story is completely and utterly broken by now and will need couple of patches focusing solely on trying to fix it.

Think about current patch. It had:

MC finding out about betrayal and magical door
You can't write memorable moments when you have to rush to next shit. When you try to have slower moment it almost exist in vacuum and as a result it feels more boring than it should be.

I beat the 2.3 story, here are my unasked-for opinions on it:
Pros:
>Manato's storyline was cool
>Lucia was a fun character
>interesting insight into miasma and the powers agents like vivian and yidhari have (i.e. connection to creator)
>pretty good villain by ZZZ standards
>despite having roughly 6 or 7 playable characters to shill, the story still worked well
>The way zhao's group interacted with the main team was nice and sets up mysteries for the next patch

Cons:
>Why do they keep killing villains off, then leaving them explaining their entire role as a text dump at the end of the chapter?
It happened with Isolde, who apparently planned to just tell us, and now moss, who could've simply not died.
>Ether corruption is starting to get kind of confusing, especially with its interactions with miasma. Hard to tell when something's being caused by corruption or miasma.
>Yid's, Lucia's, and manato's storylines all felt kind of irrelevant to the main plot, somehow.
>Lucia's part in the main story is just SEED's side story again, but less emotional; wouldn't mind if they weren't directly next to each other.
>Yid's infatuation with phaethon feels unearned. Phaethon didn't do anything that a normal person wouldn't have done, and suddenly they're Yid's emotional center and the reason she chooses to live.
