It's a lot newer in the west. Realistically the series is only about 10 years old here. Sky came out in 2011 on PSP but nobody really played it at the time and I would say most of the current fanbase probably started around Covid.
In Japan the series is 20 years old and I'm not sure exactly about China but it's probably not far off. They're a lot more fed up with certain things in the series than Westerners are because they've been waiting yearly for each game and get frustrated a lot harder when Falcom fail to deliver.
Your average westerner binged the games during Covid and never really had time to theorize or get hyped for a long time only for Falcom to not deliver and frustrate them. This is why you see a lot more dooming with this series now than you did years ago because now Westerners are caught up and have to wait years between the games only for Falcom to let them down.
