Just beat Mega+ with Ranamon, in fact she was the one to do the final hit, if I could beat the max difficulty with Ranamon, anyone can carry any of their favorite mons to the end without any problems.

I was a big Pokemon and Digimon fan back in the beginning, but while Pokemon became super repetitive with the episodes (Ash goes to a new town, meets someone with a new Pokemon, Team Rocket tries to steal it and Pikachu, they go blasting again, Ash and friends leave saying they will someday return, they never do.) Digimon was always showing new stuff, had cooler villains and monsters, and was in general a better product.
And with games, the Game Boy belonged to my big brother and he wouldn't let me play Pokemon, but the PSX was from the two of us and I could play Digimon World and get one million numemons because I sucked ass.

The problem of mind control plot twists is that they remove agency from the characters and make them way less interesting. Before we reached that plot twist I was genuinely intrigued by junomon and wanted to know more about her but afterwards she became not much more interesting than the NPC digimon in central town, there's nothing left to her. You have to let your characters have agency in their actions to communicate their personality and character if everyone is eventually mind controlled or influenced it makes the characters weaker

Friend of mine had the first 3 World games, so whenever I visited we played them. He didn't have a PS1 memory card while we were playing on PS2, so every time I can over we had to start from scratch. He also had Monster Rancher 2.
I also rented World 4 numerous times but never got far because of how janky it was. Even got my dad to play it with me to try and make it easier. Didn't work.
Then years later when I sort of just forgot about Digimon, saw some gameplay of Cyber Sleuth, got interested, played it, and now I'm all in to Digimon.

I actually never really followed the animes much. First one I fully watched was Ghost Game, and while I liked it, I'm still just primarily into the franchise for the games.

Watching adventure as a kid, I then forgot about the franchise a bit and when I got older and got a job I wanted a nostalgia trip, so I first went to pokemon and bought Moon but I wasn't totally satisfied. One day on /vp/ there was a thread about your favorite pokemon now vs the one you had when you were a kid and I couldn't remember it, but I remembered that Gomamon was my favorite digimon as a kid and that Ladydevimon was my first "I can fix her" moment. I then bought Cyber sleuth complete edition to get back into the franchise and then Survive and Ghost game just confirmed that Digimon was the franchise for me.

Played CS and HM on my vita, got into the vpets last year. I always liked the designs from a young age when a friend showed me armadimon on a vhs cover in preschool. never had a reason to get deep into the franchise since pokemon didn't go to shit yet. Frontier is the season they got rid of the digimon partners, which in my opinion was a bad choice, and leave the kids just transforming like power rangers, which is kinda nice because then you don't get them doing nothing but watching the fights.
However after beating the first main villain, it changes to just two characters transforming and the rest of the kids watching and doing nothing, and that happens for half of the show.
It's also the show that introduced Ranamon, you must had hear about her, the frog girl Anons have been posting... also Lucemon! He's the final boss of that Season!
It has some nice things, the soundtrack, the classic style of animation from older seasons of Digimon because it's an old season, some episodes are comfy, but for the most part there's nothing truly amazing to it, and the second half of the show feels kinda repetitive until reaching the final boss.
I think it can be entertained to watch if you also have a phone in hand to do other stuff.

I just tried the demo of Time Strangers are was struck by how terrible the sound design is. 90% of the things you hear in the demo are just your own footsteps in empty places. The giant monster climbing up the side of a building was doing it silently, even with the screen shaking and shit. Dialogue is horribly stilted and feels delayed in a way that breaks conversation flow. And then the music feels just sort of "there", feeling completely dissociated from the game itself, like I was just listening to some generic fantasy songs on a spotify playlist.

Is this just a problem for the demo area or is it a consistent issue through the game?

Some of it's up to interpretation or slinging obscure dex entries at eachother, but, most Champion Digimon are equatable to most fully evolved Pokémon. There's a lot of outliers, broadly favoring Pokémon, but, rule of thumb is a Champion can probably slug with a fully evolved pokemon, with reasonable chances of victory to either side, before things like matchup and context come up. Sure, maybe fukkin Sukamon isn't, but, on average.
Ultimates are a solid foot above most Pokemon, and tons of Ultimates have details tucked into their trivia that kinda rolls everything in pokemon that's not a proper legendary or one of the ones with a truly wild dex entry like Magcargo or Gardevoir. Even then, black holes and suns aren't really THAT out of left field for Digimon either, at least in part due to Digimon's tendency towards superlatives in its own "dex" entries.
Most pokemon legendaries are swinging with the kinds of feats strong Ultimates and weak Megas are, and pretty much only the Creation Trio & Arceus are swinging their dick into Ultra, where I don't think they put up a particularly impressive showing. And again, I think there's stuff in Ultimate that can actually punch up into them, too.
Rookies are kinda between first forms and shitty pokemon teenage forms, with a spread, and pretty much no baby or in training Digimon is swinging against any pokemon that's not a piece of shit among weak pokemon, like Magikarp or Sunkern.

Then, more broadly. Pokemon are almost never viewed with a sort of cataclysmic lens. Pokemon activity changing the landscape in radical ways is mostly all folklore, being so rare it kinda just doesn't happen. Tyranitar is about the only entry that suggests Pokemon deals with cataclysmic landscape changes on the regular, while it's not even super rare for a fight between Ultimate Digimon to leave craters, fuck up megastructures or mountains, ect, and fighting Megas sometimes has the same gravitas as your pokemon box art guys fighting.

Your standard mega attack is a 1 hit 100 power move, his is a 2 hit 48 power move. More hits are usually better on average due to crits. Boltmon has a fairly good signature attach since it's 130 pow at 70% accuracy which is easily fixed with equipment.

Multihits & digifarm stat grinding make weird situations where Wargreymon is stronger than Omnimon despite having lower stats since he has a 30x3 attack with a crit bonus.

That does match up with my rough hypothesis of which kinds of attacks are better, too. I've been kinda eyeballing my damage output on my Skullseadramon and Metalgreymon for a while, since they have been pretty consistent anchors for this part of the game, and both have been level capped for a good while, so their stats have been consistent (as far as I know). Multi hits scoring a crit in the middle was something I noticed as being way more impactful in the long run, and missing a hit in the middle is nowhere near as painful as missing a single good one.
And I remember later evolutions getting outperformed by their priors from Cyber Sleuth. Poor HerculesKabuterimon.

Basically, GF WAY underestimated how hard the jump to 3D would be. XY is basically half the game it was supposed to be. Like, legitimately, at least half, if not more of the game was just outright cut, as various technical issues, and just sheer mismanaged work hours because they hadn't done it before added up. This is the pitiable sort of incompetence, not the malicious incompetence they have now. This is just them naively believing it wouldn't be *that* hard to just make a 3D game.
Internally, they were bracing for XY to perform poorly because of how rough the game was, and Z was at some level conceptualized as basically being the other half of the game. Instead, XY were smash successes that performed above the trend the games had been on, and that pretty much settled it.
If they can make half the game and succeed, why bother with more.
And they never really got "good" at making 3D games. As another anon mentioned, they have been weirdly, adamantly stubborn about not hiring new people or expanding the team, to account for the new technologies they are working with, and have set an unsustainable pace, that unskilled, understaffed teams can only barely keep up with, and are constantly having people sheared off to go start work on the NEXT thing, which needs emergency work done on it to make sure it's in a playable state in 2-3 years.
The last year ZA spent "refining" as claimed was mostly a lie. It was actually the case that most of the team just needed to be pulled off ZA to do emergency work to get gen 10, iirc Wind & Waves, into a vaguely playable state, because it was behind expectations.

Any and all information has been pieced together from leaked files, mostly from the teraleak a while back. That had a lot of things like dated builds of games, design documents, and memos, that have all contributed to building a more complete picture.

Main way is Load Enhancement.
Digimon gain a bit when they are the one to deal the final blow to an encounter (when they get the victory screen, basically), but this, along with what you get from levels, won't manifest until you digivolve. (Notably, it MUST be a digivolve. De-evolving doesn't do it, but I believe at least some is "banked" for the next time they do evolve).
Digimon also get a bit every time they evolve into a new form (again, they won't get it when de-evolving, but will cash it in when they evolve). Nothing from baby/in-training level though.
From a raw digimon, the best way to scrounge some is just evolve them through every rookie and champion you can get from level 1 stats. You can usually pick up 10-15 before you end up stuck in something that needs training/get sick of it.
Digimon consistently killing shit will get a big boost when evolution time comes.

The best way to grind it, is go to a low level place, with the digimon you want to grind, at a level where you can digivolve up out of, in the lead spot with a spread move, and just blast groups, win battles, convert your encounters, digivolve them to whatever champion/ultimate slop you can get from level 1/low exp investment, and shove them all up the ass of that digimon. An hour or two of focused effort can PROBABLY get you to 100, with leftover load fodder for someone else, as a treat.
Save some talent boost items, to un-cap guys so you can load more into them. You can't load if you're capped, but since more max level is gained AFTER exp, you can always load however much you want once you uncap someone. Also build at least a bit of bond on anyone you're grinding, a little goes a long way for accumulating a stat snowball.

Anode Heart already kinda borrowed from Digimon's playbook instead of Pokemon and I think that's going to be the future. Astra Bestiary also looks more like Digimon than Pokemon if that gets completed. You can increase bond by fighting in battle with your dudes but it is extremely slow. The fastest way to increase bond honestly is to find out which food they like and buy enough to get them to 100 bond. It usually will cost between like 10-20k depending on how much bond you already have. The food they like (denoted by a heart icon) tends to give slightly more than 2 points of bond a piece.
