The trouble with the “balancing” is the game isn’t hard, it becomes bullshit and options limited.
Players actually want the game harder, but the developers are autistic.
Players know harder means difficult choices, better reflexes and higher demand of pattern recognition.
The developers think hard means a steroid-bulked Stalker that can spin 360 degrees across the map and kill you instantly because it spawned directly behind you.
But hey, they’ll shadow-update it tomorrow and pretend it didn’t happen, I guess.
Also the game fucks up computers and that’s a lawsuit waiting to happen; that’s probably more important.

I don't have any other gameguard games, so not an option for me. It's whatever anyway, the issue resolved with a reinstall. I did read somewhere that gameguard tends to leave a rogue process running if it fails to boot and shuts down unexpectedly, and that will prevent further attempts even if they would otherwise be successful, but it's too late for me to see if that was the issue now. The Defender is fine, it's very strong with customizations since it has very high innate ergo that lets you stack on the heavy gear without compromising handling. You just have to accept that it'll always be slightly weaker than stock Lib in exchange for being able to one-hand it. The one-handing trait should be the main reason you pick the weapon, let your team know that you're the designated High Value Sample carrier and such.

I've been running the jar for a week on all three factions, generally I think the best use for it is in semi, and you run around next to someone else. It's like using the shittiest DMR in the world with the sway and ergos, but you can spamfire and it's really good at close range. Yes but also no. Helldiver weapons are Light+ pen which exceeds the armor on most "Light" units, there's one or two bug units that have Light+ armor instead of light so light pen weapons only deal 65% damage to them while medium pen deals full damage. On launch the Spray&Pray was "Light" pen which resulted in it doing half damage to everything, which obviously made it far and away the worst weapon in the game.
