I can't think of anything. Not because I think it's perfect, because it's 2 fucking AM.
At first I read your post and went more in the vein of ''adding a defensive mechanic or reworking current ones'', but nothing came to mind. And we know how easily you can brick a game if you add a bad defensive mechanic. I don't know all defensive mechanics in FGs, I can't even begin to think about the side effects of adding one of them to the game.

That said, you can also improve defense by nerfing offense or rebalancing risk reward. Again, I can't think of anything too complex because it's 2AM, but what the other anon suggested (adding recovery to shit) is one of the main things I wish they had done to Rising. Too much stuff has too little recovery. Ultimate skills that are -6 like U Sheep, U Soriz Fist, U Grimnir lunge should all be at least be punishable by cM. And not a ''tight'' punish, they should just barely be under the threshold for a cH punish so that you don't get cH but have ample time to not mess your cM punish.
Also stuff like 66Ms and 66Hs. Anila's 66H a bad offender of this but she's far from the only one.

Never touching Meg again even if they buff her, some parts of her kit COULD feel great to use with buffs but she's so dysfunctional right now to the point that you have to outright ignore some moves. 214X feels completely superfluous and I never used it besides L as a safe blockstring ender and H in combos for its wallbounce, her rekka is laughably bad and 22X feels good when it works but it's far too easy to whiff. She's practically a 66L machine, if 66L didn't exist she'd be unuseable

The Vaseraga changes, are they impactful? What does the stance change mean, i cant do stance into L into stance or Mstance into hold block into Mstance anymore in quick succession?
Is the yellow charge change big? I was using the second hit often (even if it got me punished as well, i just think its cool) so maybe that will hurt me.
I see that we jumped in players a bit, im excited to go into the game again!
I was in a hospital mostly since monday, a family member came to visit me for vacation as we didnt see each other for close to 3 years and there was a car crush that inflicted a head injury and bleeding (thankfully not internal bleeding in the skull, just leaving a mess of blood everywhere) so i wasnt able to check out the patch yet. She came with my two young nieces so i was taking care of them as well (nothing happened to the kids outside of some bruises) and insurence stuff as she wasnt in the country for some years now so has no insurance here.
I probably will need to take care of them for maybe a week but whats important is she should be out of the hospital somewhere after the weekend as shes stable and recovering well.

Her divekick mix isn't very good once they know they can just evade, but you still have time to set up a mari shark launch for free off of a block string with the U-followup.
I guess her shark launcher might've been thought to play a bigger part in her kit with how much they showed it off, but i honestly haven't found much use for it other than covering my approach, which just accents the rushdown aspect. The setups off of the shark launcher are really finicky and require specific distances from Mari, so i ended up using it less and less.
She has safejumps for days though, so its easy to stay on-top of your oppenent

Even your fastest mashing is probably going to have random gaps of eight or so frames. You've a much higher chance of one mashed press being just too early and then you make your +1 into a -6.
Either time one press correctly, adopt a tempo to your taps so they line up consistently, or flip on a turbo switch.

Gene-havers will tell you that combos don't matter, but the only way to make opponents respect your plus frames is to hit them for half of their health if they mash on them. They're just going to keep doing it and eventually win if you only do triple attack special off the counterhits.

Here's your hands-on combo guide:
1. Go in training mode
2. Press a button
3. Press a H special
4. Repeat with every possible button and special
5. Now do the same with every U special
6. Memorize what specials work after what starters
7. Keep in mind RS works after any starter
8. Practice some more by setting the dummy to do random shit and react with an appropriate button and convert it into a full combo, or just play real games and practice that way
9. After anywhere from a few days to one month depending on your genetics, you should be able to convert any button into a full or partial combo depending on your character
10. Repeat for any new character you pick up

I've been playing fighting games longer than Diaphone and he still casually picks up whatever combos in whatever game he plays in a matter of minutes when for me it takes dozens of hours. People meme about the gene, but there is some truth to it, some people are just naturally more genetically predisposed to learning and memorizing these things quickly.

What's funny about the Diaphone GBVSR situation is the free publicity he gets from competing in month 1 of fighting games and never again.

Not saying he has the gene, but he comes into fighters for a month, competes in the minor weeklies, earns win money, makes a video or 2 for the content money side, and only really focuses on 1 game majorly whilst being credited as a multi game player.

The fact that we have other people who only really play GBVSR and lose out the content popularity scale of the game to Diaphone. The man has talent in learning games quickly and picking them up, but it's that toxic competitive aspect that players like him push that means games die rapidly.

I generally speaking focus on playing one fighter at a time, since I don't have the gene I get my muscle memory mixed up if I play multiples and try to superdash in GranBlue or use baka midori in Strive. I have considered going back to Strive or DBFZ but then I take one look at their current gameplay and realize that maybe the Rising patches aren't as horrid as people here would have you believe. The gripes that people had initially (like awkward tag/assist timing) appear to have been remedied by being made more open.

Since EX Neechang suffers due to her straightforward and lacking toolkit compared to basechang, you have to learn to be more respectful of the opponent with certain tools.

EXNeechang has it good with her 5L being able to autocombo from anywhere, regardless of it's natural short length. This makes your light stagger pressure strong. Since most of her strongest combos start from c5H, frametrapping 5L into that is preferable but also expected, so you can mixup with another 5L or c5M, or even expect a reversal and block.

For her pressure, you have 5H and 6U, which both cover a strong part of the screen and destroy projectiles.

I've also seen some players ending combos with 236L then immediately performing 236M, a flip that leaves you at +1, EXNeechangs only special that leaves her plus on block.

If you want to be more threatening with EXNeechang, you can use her smaller frame to disguise throws as the grab box is disjointed from her body in a positive way for mindgames. You can also end blockstrings in 214L midscreen to reset to neutral, as you are out of throw range but -4.
