But in Stella Sora, the MC is not playable and does not have their own 3D model. During cutscenes, the characters are looking directly at (You). the way BA's interactivity works is the whole issue, uma is able to go all in on the grind of it by simplifying it to you making instantaneous decisions and dynamically building a character over a run in a way where you're always thinking and engaging with the mechanics. BA is like driving in traffic, you don't have the joy of driving freely (actually substantial moment to moment gameplay) but you still have to concentrate just enough to inch forward and not crash your car; you need to constantly interact with the game via skill executions/placements but there isn't enough room for you to actually engage with the gameplay. Everyone says this but from what I've read up to Abydos Summer the story has been very weak and the characters very shallow. Volume 3 was great and volume 4 was okay, but that's about it. Volume 2 was boring, and volume 1 was retarded and made me hate Hoshino for being such a monumental moron. Most of the event stories have been extremely dull stretching out of a gag that overstayed its welcome by the time it was even halfway done, to the point that I stalled out after Volume 3 Chapter 4 because I don't want to sit through another dozen shitty event stories.
Every character in Blue Archive is someone you immediately have a handle on from their first meeting and your first assumptions about them will be true and remain true, because as far as I've read Mika is the only character to have ever changed or developed in any meaningful way, as opposed to their hidden side being treated as a funny quirk like with Serina.

Either things massively pick up after the first year of content was a slog full of boring event stories or BAfags have very low standards for story and characterisation and little exposure to other works that handle both the drama and comedy elements much better, like Heaven Burns Red, which unfortunately has gameplay that's so tedious and shit that I dropped it because of that instead.
