The reason why scrapnik island is the best IDW arc is because it's the one least affected by mandates. It's self-enclosed, sonic doesn't do much in it, and SEGA hates tails so there's no real mandates to constrain him.

You retards need to wake up and realize Evan Stanley is way more dangerous than Ian Flynn. Ian's a glorified freelancer who gets his scripts rewritten for JP and treated like shit by SEGA. Meanwhile Evan is an ACTUAL employee with job security. She doesn't give a fuck about most of the brand - she only touches mainline IDW and those Chao Tales shorts, that's it. She can't even draw human women properly which is pathetic for someone in her position.

Here's the real kicker: Japanese social media actually mentions her. Ian gets ignored over there but Evan has actual presence. She has WAY more chance of affecting canon than Flynn ever will. Ian's kept at arm's length and supervised to hell, but Evan's integrated into the company structure.

Everyone's busy seething about Flynn while Evan's quietly getting more power and influence. She's gonna do way more damage long-term because she actually has the position and access to fuck things up properly. Ian's just a punching bag, Evan's the one you should actually be worried about. I think this highlights the biggest problem with the comics for me. Silver can time travel and prevent Whisper's entire backstory.
The stakes in the games are high, ridiculously so. To the point a character time traveling is seen as mundane.
The abilities of the game cast trivialize the plight of the comic cast. If the comic were to actually focus on the game characters, every problem would be solved instantly.
This leaves the comic trying to focus on the small characters to deal with small problems. Which is lame compared to the world ending plots in the games.
If the comics could focus on big problems, and the comics characters get pushed back to their supporting role, the comic might be able to focus on big characters doing cool things.
But over and over, it seems the writers are incapable of that simple task. They're too attached to their OCs.

Well, that's part of the issue with IDW. The writers care too much about emotions and trying to inject furry drama. In reality the Sonic cast would either lack the time to consider these things or could just solve them instantly. That's part of why the 'Sonic spares Eggman' debacle was nonsensical. Essentially, in the west you have two major parts of the sonic fandom: the older fans (30+) who are usually classicfags or archiefags, and the younger fans (<25) who like IDW, the movies, and the newer games.

In japan, you don't really have older fans because nintendo won the console war harder there, and there are no young fans to get attached to sonic. So sonic doesn't really have a fandom or anything to sell to. And japanese people are very "trendy", they don't tend to buy something unless it's already popular. It doesn't help that there really isn't a furry fandom there like there is in china/s korea, so they can't even sell to furries.

I wouldn't be surprised if south korea and china have larger sonic fandoms than japan too.
