Bro, he's just gaslighting you. Concentration and focus each count towards Groundwork separately. Concentration + double circle Front Runner Savvy is the ideal set up for ground work. It gives you 4 activations for it, so you're safe if one of your 4 wit rolls fails (Of course this wont help if you fail the wit roll for groundwork itself, if you have Concentration and double circle Front Savvy, but Groundwork still doesn't activate, then that is most likely the cause).

That said, you shouldn't bring Concentration into Team Trials. Its just a REALLY bad skill for TT. While it will help you activate groundwork, its not worth it. Concentration is basically like a -3000 point debuff to your overall score. It's better to just go for multiple green skills. If you can get double circle Front Savvy then all you need is one more.

because they don't have to be where everyone else is. think of it as though they offer random bonus trainings to whatever stat they land on. fine motion offers similar trainings to a friendship training from a good SR of the appropriate type, while tazuna is slightly less effective, but still relatively strong, and reduces the energy cost of the training.
so, when you're running all dedicated stat sticks, sometimes you will have turns where there just isn't a single training worth landing on. fine motion and tazuna offset this by making wherever they happen to land a good training. if one of them lands on stamina, even if your stamina card isn't there, you'll get a good training anyways. it's great when they decide to stack on top of your friendship trainings, but they're not only useful in that scenario.

I have most SR wit cards at MLB but I've had poor luck with that

Tried her out in 5 rooms so far, placed around 2nd/3rd each time. The rooms were fairly normal A rooms with 2 debuffers (usually Nature/Rudolf), no super whales.
The biggest thing is her unique requires her to be between 2nd and 6th to activate after popping two midrace skills, which can be an issue if it's a front/pace heavy room. The good news is that she doesn't run out of stamina with just Maestro and being hit with MM/ASE.
I'll probably build another one with more SP and try to grab It's On.
