I don't actually know much about the Pokémon tcg but I always want to buy those boxes and stuff, they look like a cool toy box or something.

If I had to guess, they're good because they're selling you the main monster guaranteed in the box. I also saw some boxes about Mewtwo or the full Charizard evo line.
Like maybe the equivalent for Yugioh would be to place a.. Uhh... I mean we already have Structure decks, but an actual Meta box? Pokemon has the advantage by having so little characters that they become more marketable as a result, in top of just generally having product structure that enables this sort of shit to be commonplace (most cards are cheap as fuck so reprinting a meta strategy that costs maybe $50 at the most to play means nothing compared to needing to reprint several $200+ strategies like Yugioh has).
A new Pokemon generation comes out every 3-4 years or so and gives like maybe 100 Pokemon at a time. Those Pokemon also have several evolution lines in them where the main focus is on the final form, so overall there's not a lot of "groups" added.
Then consider what Yugioh does. Every month they release a new product containing new characters and expect you to just adore them. They just simply aren't marketable because they flood the entire game with a constant barrage of new characters to the point where people just have to attach to an archetype instead. Then, most of the time, they simply abandon that archetype and move onto making another.
Konami have tried to make stuff more marketable via lore stories and the new Chronicles anime, which certainly does help, but its still yet another batch of archetypes amongst a sea of new archetypes and retrains of old archetypes.
It gets to the point where new decks come out with the same visuals or same gimmick as other decks to the point where you just question why even fucking bother making the new shit when it could've just been support for the old shit? Ryzeal for example doesn't really do anything particularly interesting or innovative to warrant being new, they could've just been retooled as a support wave for literally any other Rank 4 deck and nobody would feel the void that would be left

I am not optimistic about the overframe or serialized cards but I've opted to sit back and just wait to see how they turn out when revealed before I shit talk it too much.
If they make the overframes look cool without looking tacky then based.

Personally though I think the biggest missed opportunity is something they already do, just not enough of. Alt arts. We should be getting alt arts regularly, like in every set.
We already have tons of fan favorite cards. If you gave me the choice between having a tacky looking full art of them using the regular art which I already have or a well drawn alt art (because I know we do have some really shit alt arts unfortunately) I'll always pick the alt art.
