This is only the case for Author's notes. Most of the prompt injections from a lorebook follow the Char/EM hierarchy and even then you can choose depth on the @D or just simply use the Outlet for specific macro injects. People make the assumptions that character notes or main oriented prompts just sort of meld into a similar block of text, but the lorebook entries are always categorized in the order and hierachy you choose and affect the output depending on what the contain (along with other triggers). The misconception is likely born from the fact that people are used to sending their defs as a huge wall of text without much configuration without really realizing how it fucks with retaining specific snippets of prompt information. This is especially true if you're using quite a bit of recursive and nesting lorebook structure.

You can think of defs as a template. Sort of like a character sheet. LB (if configured properly) then picks and chooses which information in the LB it retains across inputs/outputs.
The most simple way to put it would be to have a simple card that defines a fox girl. It might contain any number of information you could add to the defs, but with the added benefit of being able to comb a larger entry of LB recursive entries such as "Holo is a foxgirl and is friends with {{user}}" without having to solely have this information in the defs. Now add in a character solely with a name and definition and slowly see why having recursive entries makes even categorizing the information easier. If you simply categorize {{user}} as a dog in an LB the bot will know this information from lorebook entries without having to type it into every def and every character seperately. This is why LB:s are godlike for group conversations.
