Zero Caliber 2 is pretty blurry, ugly, shitty light bakes, mediocre performances, visual artifacting, stereo rendering issues and the gun sound sucks dick.
Weapon handling is okayish and that's about it.

I think the formula that'd work best in VR is a relatively short 30 minute round-based format with 30-60 people doing mostly cooperative things but with some hidden/antagonist roles, a la SS13. Short rounds makes it possible to have real players doing somewhat tedious roles (e.g. janny or cook) without it feeling bad, and resets between rounds prevents nolifers/bots from just grinding to the top of the progression. It also just fits better with the average VR user's stamina for doing stuff physically (and/or their headset battery). Wouldn't necessarily have to be space station setting either, could do like a medieval high-fantasy village, or school, whatever, and still have lots of different roles.

This format already basically exists in simpler forms in the TTT or murder or jailbreak maps in vrchat, and of course all the LARP groups are also doing basically the same thing but manually, so I think there's potential. You'd still have to do a lot of work to make the roles/jobs complex enough to be compelling, balance people who want to roleplay vs munchkins, figure out how to make low-pop rounds still fun, etc. But that all feels significantly easier than trying to make a "traditional" MMO with like progression and gear grinding and hotbar combat work.

guns and magic mmo. barely any story, you are dropped in the world as is and if you care, you will pick up lore clues. no npc quests, but there are player quests: players will be able to get some kind of private estate that is a source of resources. the problem is the resources need to be babysat or else they will produce nothing. player quests are automated for you, basically it invites players into your instance to babysit it by shooting attacking monsters, do menial labor, or providing some kind of growth boost if players go kill x monsters in a dungeon. note that you can also do all this shit yourself but its a lot of work that wastes your time, other players are rewarded more. npcs can also be hired but they are way more expensive than players and significantly cut into profits

locations are instanced like classic mmos (and vrchat) except they are all connected through certain routes, you can't just jump to wherever you want. no world pvp, just pvp zones. big focus on pve. monsters have random/range spawns like old mmos, you can just walk to a spot and start blasting. bullets are all magically created but is limited by regenerating mana. you still have to reload your gun and carry magazines/clips/whatever that you've made ahead of time.

why would this be fun?
mostly the sense of progression and shooting monsters (instead of just being another cod/cs wannabe).
killing things isn't super tiring thanks to guns, magic gives an excuse to have/do unrealistic things. playing by yourself is good, grouping is more efficient. easy automated team up system when playing solo where you automatically share team kills and benefits (can opt out). doesn't demand insane levels of skill (outside of pvp or specific nerd raid content) and everyone can enjoy mmorpg progression.
game will employ FULL immersion systems, that means:
options for voice changer and speech to text to speech (for sounding in character)
custom avatars (like vrc, with way stricter limitations)

Yeah, you're going to need to upgrade to a newer socket which'll need a new motherboard and ram, plus a GPU. It'd probably come out to around $800-1000 to get all of that with new parts.I looked on ebay and trying to go used with the AM4 socket didn't seem to be worth it, but a used GPU might be a good buy. AM5 puts you in a good position to upgrade later to something like a 9800X3D which'll have you set for years.

If you want to get a mobo with specific features (drive count etc) that's worth taking a closer look, I just picked what's cheapest here. If anyone else has something to add please do. I think a recommended PC specs list would be a decent addition to the sticky, but that's pretty objective as you can always suffer with lower specs and low frames (as I did with my 3060 for forever).
