They are underperforming against air targets and overperforming against ground.
A couple of updates ago, gaijin broke cannons against planes again and they were doing literally no damage. They upped the fragmentation by 500% as a band aid solution, they didn't really resolved it against air targets since every cannon either 50% sparks or 50% literally implodes the enemy plane, but in ground now every plane autocannon that pens a tank does the fragmentation of a literal 150mm aphe.
You can even test this in the damage simulator because there are planes and tanks that sahre the same cannon and projectile, but the results are extremly different

The reality is that WT is literally one of the best F2P to ever exists. Even it's monetization is good compared to the average. If you play a lot you can get everything you want for free, thereìs literally no other f2p mmorpg that lets you do this.

If you play this game for hundreds of thousands of hours you see the massive flaws in the game with a dev team that does not care to fix them as any sort of care that could be put into this game anymore has been cast away due to the devs being greedy slavic subhumans who won't even do the absolute bare minimum as long as profits still come in with their lazy tactics of dumping copypaste tech trees/premiums paired with economy nerfs on tech tree vehicles to get people to shell out for premium time/vehicles. I'll throw a few at you. The IL-2 is a tank that can turn, or at least once, and has generous enough ammunition by Soviet standards with cannons that punch above their caliber in terms of what you can pen. Underpowered for its weight, don't fly it too fancy.

the Me-410 is a fast intruder bomber-fighter with double remote 13mms in the ass and an assload of frontal 20mm and 8 or 13mm plus a bomb bay for lots of 50kgs or a couple 250-500kgs. You can treetop it to bases and ding them for some extra points if you want to fully wait for the merge to happen.

the B7A2 is a dive bomber with 20mms that turns like a zero, dives like a jug and clubs the shit out of the retarded by dint of airspawn. Control accuracy other than elevators degrades somewhat harshly under compression and it can't finely roll-yaw on for shit either way though which hurts it when used for ground attack if you're too tightly looping in your runs. The event version is a slight straight upgrade to engine power at the same BR.

there's other slum mowers available in other trees or prems or squadrons but I feel those three are some tech tree standouts

Yes. It's a late war US superprop at 4.7. The only somewhat bad thing is it's only got 4 50cals and limited ammo, but it climbs well, has good top speed, and can turn very well when it's got energy.

you get a decent amount of downtiers and your aesa + top tier manoeuvrability actually lets you have awareness of the match and the ability to dodge missiles

I really dislike when people play up the pl5b's. I used it during a previous grind event and I can confidently say that the missile doesn't really matter. There's like, 2 times I could think of where a pl7 couldn't keep up with a plane, but many more where the pl5b couldn't lock for shit or failed to turn. So I take a mixed loadout. But I can tell you now I'd drop them both for R-60Ms.
