I am 1700 chesscom, but not because I've studied 8 hours a day, rather because I just spend hours a day during my chess periods with the game because I enjoy it. Do puzzles, look over your games, watch people better than you play, share games here or elsewhere for others to help, read a chess book (i have not but I plan on it,) whatever you will enjoy and will help you improve. The analyzing your games is definitely what should give you answers at least though, you can't really complain about losing if you don't know why you're losing.

If I was the owner/dictator of FIDE, I'd only allow closed tournaments to be rated if they used a qualification system for at least half of their participants; winners from certain open Swiss tournaments or national championships qualify for these high category round robin tournaments, top finishers of those tournaments qualify for these higher category tournaments, etc.
Besides refreshing the highest category tournaments with new (or second wind) faces, it'd also force the bottom half finishers to do better in the lower category tournaments (or even opens) if they want to make it back to the top tournaments.
