yeah it was definitely pre-planned. the silithid and AQ is unironically the best plotline in all of wow. It was intricately set up as early as the starting zones for some races, ties into ancient lore, and they are literally the only threat in the entire game that actually felt threatening. Having an old god as the ultimate antagonist was legitimately creepy and intimidating, long before old gods turned into a total joke.

It's pretty funny how they keep trying to one-up the "ancient evil awakens" thing in retail every expansion to the point of total absurdity when the one and only time it worked was c'thun.

I still think the AQ architecture is the best in the game, it actually feels ancient and alien.

Sorry for a stupid question guys first time playing classic and on a private server. If that matters because classic servers have different settings for classes - on Turtle.

I made a priest and want to heal. I am guessing it's literally impossible in classic to quest solo as a healer and I need to level as shadow. But I would still like to run dungeons as a healer and get healer gear.

Is my only choice to constantly respec? Won't I bankrupt myself doing that as respecing costs money? It's my understanding I won't deal any damage leveling in holy or discipline.

is your manapool so low you oom yourself after 1 mob? get more int
is your manapool big enough to handle 3 fights in a row but it hardly regenerates by itself and you end up drinking a lot? get more spirit
(p.s. it is classic so you WILL be drinking a lot regardless)
spec shadow, get the wand damage in disc tree and max out spirit tap in shadow, those two are the only "mandatory" points
priest leveling is a fine balance between spell usage and afking with wand where you need to find your rhythm
you "can" blow up a mob with dots, mindblast and mindflay but then you'll spend more time drinking and fighting
you "can" just shield yourself and wand only, but then you waste time by not using your mana efficiently
at the beginning, it is normal to just shield yourself, mindblast, shadowword pain and then wand the mob to death so that by the time you pull the next mob, you should be near max mana again
if you end up having full mana before next pull: use one or two mindblasts more
if you end up running low on mana: use less
keep upgrading your wand every couple levels, they are usually cheap on the AH and are huhe powerspikes especially during the first 30 levels

Worgen really do make more sense on horde if you really think about it. Cursed to be savage beasts, existing conflict with the alliance over their closing themselves off in the face of the undead threat and with the night elves over the creation of the worgen curse in the first place and scythe of elune. I think you're right, however, in design, some classes - indeed shaman, druid and paladin, were designed to cover multiple roles *At once*. The way they were envisioned, the druid might hang back to heal, then when the party was stable, they would lunge in and add DPS via cat form, then shift to bear and control an add. The "holy trinity" had not been set in stone, or even fully ideated yet. Classes were expected to adapt, and druids were masters of adaptablity. They were being given the tools to cover *all roles* by default, before any spec or talent even factored in. It was a time where hybrids still had a conceptual place. Sadly, now they do not, even fan projects such as turtle are inherently married to the trinity and their class redesigns reflect that, making classes that wern't "main tank" material now become able to cover for one of the roles in the triangle, decisively and clear-cut.
While you CAN reduce every class, and consequently every encounter to a whack a mole of health bars, the people who make the enemy bar go down, the people who make the team's bar go up, and the people who control where the damage goes, games used to be more nuanced than that.
