I think Toby has plans for how the un-shattered Gaster is supposed to look like, but he's also fine with taking ideas from fanon and using them to tease Gaster-shenanigans.

I also think Dess being a loser might be a parallel to Kris. I'm not sure about Kris being a second knight, but there is clearly a narrative thing where they're like Dess (who's presumably the knight) in the Dark World. They're both look knightly, they both wield swords, and Dess even knights Kris. Also, from all we know about Dess, it kinda paints her to be a weird person, kinda like Kris. Meanwhile, Noelle is very bubbly and outgoing, which sounds a lot like Asriel from what we hear about him.

A lot of adult men are afraid of the idea that all that commitment they had for another person could be meaningless and mean nothing, but it's reality. You could spend decades investing in something that never mattered.
