It was meant to be a play on words of "buffalo" but I forgot that the plains were actually full of bison instead.
In any case, there were just a lot of heavies. Practically every patrol that wandered into the fight had two of them, and plenty of bile titans to boot. Made me nostalgic for the days when I'd drop into D9 missions in the first few months and land into double-digit groups of bile titans.
Anyways, more cursed map gen, which as far as I'm able to determine dipped so far below the map you could dive into the killbox that's usually only for stuff like sinkholes in megacities.

The game is not optimized in the ship, at all. Remember how you can fall through the floor and it's simulating the entirety of the landscape, space, the other ships around and it isn't just small skyboxes being blown up to size through perspective tricks?
When you play in a mission, the ship in orbit is not simulated as well as the "ground" is when you're in orbit, plus the operational space is a lot smaller than the actual real size of the level when you're in the ship, leading to it taxing the system more than in actual gameplay. Heck, you can notice this the easiest when you turn your camera around quickly in the ship forcing the landscape to render and thus make your GPU go into overdrive.

The thing that has them fucked is that all the planets on direct lines have Megacities, which not only doubles the invasion time but also gives players numerous opportunities to cut those invasions off at the knees with huge bursts of instant defense. Even if Joel tosses a level 50 attack at us, the percentage-based nature of Megacity capture/defense renders it meaningless. Only way he can directly threaten those planets is by going for Outpost 32 and then Calypso.

Shorter time in between periods of not being able to shoot. You fiddle with a drum mag for 5 seconds but a quick CLACK and the shortmag is in.
I have a drum on my breaker, but a short mag on my spray&pray.
I could go into more depth but I’m tired. There’s nothing to sell with short mags, they’re good. There’s just a time and a place for them. Sometimes a drum mag is better. I have a drum mag on most of my customized weps that can have a drum mag but several that the short mag is vastly superior. Erg is great but what I care about most is being able to shoot as much as possible.
I’ll say one more thing, I don’t always use a full drum mag, sometimes I’ll use half in an exchange then reload anyway because I don’t ever go into a new exchange with half a clip, so short mags are also good if you’re constantly reloading anyway, the extra mag depth might not be doing anything for you other than hurting your erg and wasting ammo every time you throw half the clip away to put in a new one.

I did have the one game today playing a geo survey mission where I didn't actually crash. The other anon who joined my game did twice but I didn't, for once. So it's an improvement on my end, at least. Though I am still getting occasional freezes that last from two to five seconds as well. Some months back I asked about the confidence of the general on if they believe they would reliably be able to defeat a situation in-game where “1” spawn of every enemy unit in the game including variants so you’ll have ‘A’ Leviathan, ‘A’ predator pouncer, and so on. 4(?) hulk variants and so on. You get to go into this knowing the challenge as well so you can grab the gear you want.

The encounter is to take place on one of the small ‘kill X number of enemies’ mission maps.

The enemies will already be present on the map and they don’t call anything in except for adds from the spawned structures and iirc it’s just the hive commander makes adds.

Accompanying these guys are 1 of each defensive/Spawning structure so there’ll be a mortar, a cannon turret, the small turrets, a squid arc & laser turret. A fabricator, a bug hole and landed squid ship.

Hive Lord is an exception and it isn’t present.

Convoy Jammer strider blocks your strats and from there you’re hosed. It’s recoverable with a skill shot Ultimatium though but still a tall ask to pull off but if you’ve got the orbitals you’ve got a clean chance, run away like a little bitch super hard and wear the big ones down.

The Leviathan/Dragon/Impalers/strider guns/Mech grenades and lesser extent Gunship/Singray/Turrets/Harvester alltogether would be what gets you here. There’s a lot of scrambling that goes into avoiding any of those things and together there might be emerging situations where you cannot an avoid everything and get one shot for it.

Anything that isn’t a titan or otherwise super heavy just isn’t going to last long enough to be overwhelming. A lot of enemies would probably just get whittled down by friendly fire in the opening 30 seconds.
