I'm quite happy with the new hair added with Chaotic Alliance Raid. After both of the two other contest winners that were added to game were such flops ("It Takes Two" has a weird hairline, whilst "Doing The Wave" looks like seaweed + has a weird hairline), I was worried. I wondered if perhaps the developers were rushing out hairstyles to meet the quota of more rewards, at the expense of the quality of the hair. However, my fears have been assuaged by the new hair. It looks accurate to the contest picture, and more importantly, it looks good. Here's hoping that the two first hairs were just flukes.

yeah, I didn't play ff14 but it's undoubtedly a big success, this mobile version feels like a "wow classic" moment and the gameplay will catch a lot of people by surprise because people always think that mobile games are gacha scams, but this seems to be a real, complete, mmo.
it's made in unreal engine 4 by tencent using the art assets from the pc game, it's looking great, but I wish they went for ffxi instead because that game is almost dead, a relaunch would make more sense.

Hello /xivm/. Back in December, a number of /xivg/ anons launched a new FC on Mana's Pandaemonium world and started playing through ARR again together. That Free Company is called JALTER.

Being on the Japanese Data Center introduces unique challenges that push our members to work together to achieve different goals thanks to the language barrier, with data center travel limited to just Japan and Oceania.

After our two month anniversary the other day, here are some updates.

Players who remain active for one month will also receive a special gift package of in-game items to celebrate their Jalterversary, including the fruit needed to color their chocobo.

I like that they were retroactively adapted to reflect their later incarnations (Livia in the Aitiascope and Gaius in Emerald Weapon, respectively) because those were both decent fights. The Rhitanyn (solo duty) rework gives it a lot more gravity than it used to have (over in approximately 7 seconds) and even evokes a bit of empathy for him/his troops. I disagree with the way classes and other older duties get retooled, but all of the ARR MSQ changes have been handled really well.

Yeah I honestly like when FFXIV wants you to interact with the boss a lot, and a lot of the ARR dungeons that are in the MSQ do not do that quite well. I think the development team has done a better job at introducing mechanics to new players more than ever. The only issue is like you said, the retooling of classes and older duties getting gutted (Darkhold for instance).

I hope one day someone will open a private server we can all play on. It would be nice to begin on an FFXIV playerbase from scratch. I know the game is in a better state now but... I still envy those who experience 2013 ARR.

top was the breaking point for me. I teams from Stormblood all the way to top, and never in my life have I hated content more than top.

you really have 4 options when it comes to top due to fast mechanics and variance.
1 - dedicated mark slave (I did this for about 2 weeks until someone elses automarker started doing it, I was disappointed). sucks dick because you have to pause during large mechanics and rapidly mark people.
2 - 7 fast thinkers, 1 slow boy. this is harder to get outside of groups that run way too many hours.
3 - automarker
4 - [this option does not actually work due to the ability to steal other peoples marks] /mk attack <me> and /mk link <me>

the option that SHOULD work here is 4, but the game engine or servers w/e idc doesn't fully support queuing of actions, so if 2 people do it within the same timeframe before the game updates, you can steal other peoples marks. literally the tools to do the mechanics are fucking broke.

dogshit mechanics? yup we got those. DSR was peak content reliable without automarkers. priority systems had enough time to have everyone manually marked O and atk 1-5 alongside ignore 1/2, lower # wins. top also had dogshit pacing leading you to have to hold in phases, and if you had any parse brained fucking idiot this only lead to arguments. it's very frustrating when the whymage with automarkers, and cant raid without cactbot overhypes his 90 dps, 10% heal, when as a dps you have to hold so often leading to a 50 with 95th percentile damage in final phase.

I have friends who still play, and they say it's still very much the same, most people cant play without cactbot and that's just depressing. things like cb and dbm should not be allowed in games, it takes a lot of the fun out of it. I maintain that the most fun the game was was around TEA and e4s. e8s was cool [pun not intended] but as a controller player, ice skating was the bane of my existence.

thats a you problem. starting around HW I was comfortable hopping in random discords for extremes, and in stormblood I was actively recruiting people for a discord to run shit together and turned into a raid team.

the community is worse in multiple ways:

I have finished 7.0 MSQ and firmly believe the hard negativity come from transphobic people. It's not a great MSQ, but it holds off well on its own. Square felt like it had to be done due to certain jobs being excluded from content from player discretion. I.E. Paladin being barred from parties due to it not having magic defense in HW and then MNK and BRD not fitting into party rotations and buff cycles nicely. I fully believe 100% they intend at one point to make the game fully offline-able. Trusts for raids is the main missing feature right now (more complicated for bozja eureka kinda shit) and they already flirted with that in two expansions now with 8 man NPC trusts. The real interesting question is the phone-game direction. It's right now limited to either 2.0 or 2.1 or something. I don't think even Ninja is featured yet. So unless they speed-run adding the expansions it's got quite a ways off, and even if you did an expansion a year that'd be 5 years of content to 7.0 (by which time you'd have 8.0 and maybe 9.0).
