Welcome to /vm/abinogi. Mabinogi is a fun, once popular little old school Korean MMO from 2004 based around Celtic mythology with many different features. Your character can age, rebirth, eat food and gain weight, play and custom make music, and so much more. You can be anything and do anything all at once with no downsides. From non-combat related skills like cooking, tailoring, blacksmithing, trading goods in a commerce, carpentry, etc. to different styles of combat like melee, magic, ninja, archery, puppetry, etc. all on 1 character.

Although graphics and gameplay is still a bit dated, even after 28 years the game is still rich in content such as fashion contests, cooking contest, jousting, playing in or viewing large concerts, training pets, and so on and continues to be Nexon's most generous game.

If you're not a boring lying coward, I would love to see those screenshots and know who is sharing them around. With that said, nobody in serious endgame guilds cares about a little banter or edge as long as you're a competent player and not a bitch or a rat. In fact, Mabigen threadgoers tend to hold back more than those groups due to the higher possibility of rats in public spaces. If you're not trying for an endgame content guild, this isn't an issue because any guild seriously sharing screenshots of edgy speech or gating placement based on it are adult daycares and not even worth considering in the first place. If you're trying to stir up things between Mabigen and Sundew, anyone who was in the group before the split would laugh at anything you have to say.

It's pretty easy now days, we've had quite a few new Anons hop in recently and get hooked.
I've been playing a long time so the experience is entirely different from today, back then it was a lot more about learning skill mechanics to train them and a super slow burn of only getting 50~90 Ability Points every 3 weeks since it was so much harder to level up in general, you had to learn a lot about how the different monsters behaved like what movements they would make before using certain skills because your skills had fairly long loading times, even defensive ones.
As for if that's improved, it's literally what >>1830950 said you pretty much talk to one npc and have tens of thousands of AP and automatically unlock a bunch of skills that get pre-ranked for you for free when you use to have to do quests or content for them, with the vision of the developers being to push new players into the "early late game", Tech Duinn, effectively immediately out of the tutorial which leads them down doing their story questlines now.
Population's pretty healthy but Mabi absolutely has seasonal players that are only on in summer or winter, the thread's guild Mabigen is pretty active most of the year though, very friendly and welcoming to newbies too.

Saw the latest Eternity update, it's looking so damn good. Definitely making a return to this MMO when it releases.

Though it's a shame Nexon still carries it's outdated F2P, P2W model. It'll be what kills off new modern players from this MMO.

Increasing is only good for local network file transfer throughput, MTU is the size of the packets sent, higher is good for large data because there is less overhead breaking it up and sending more packets with more metadata attached. However for mabi it sends tiny amounts of data so your default 1500 MTU ends up being mostly empty padding every packet, thus lowering it reduces the amount of padding and increases the packets per second, reducing your lag by eliminating excess overhead as the increase in metadata bytes is much less than the reduction in empty data.
Mabi also amplifies this effect by using TCP instead of UDP, effectively causing every action you or anything in your draw range takes to be a 3 way back and forth series of messages between your computer and the server, the difference is significant even on high bandwidth throughput connections.

DD and EK and HS are all whiny af and AS just chills in the corner in my experience. EKs whine and complain perma ever since DD/AS released, acting like the content hasn't been getting easier and easier overtime and it doesn't even matter which DPS arcana you use anymore. DDs have been bawling their eyes out ever since they saw magic changes on KR without considering all the changes DD gets before that patch even. HS players more often than not want to invest as little into their character as possible and then complain that they have no use in anything besides glenn because all the other content just blows up. Somehow I am the only dark mage player that sees the man fireball crit 500k on KR live and the other man with the same gear and a worse combo card crit 1m on KR test and realizes it's a buff.
EK, AS, and other DM all cry at me waaaaah you need 80% vivace, I show them movies of DM with >5k matk and 42% vivace (basically the same as my own buff with no meaningful p2w and missing enchants made with ingame reforges.) mowing down crom bas 100% in 10 mins and still get "nooooooooooo it's nerfed how dare they make you buff for mage like you have to on warrior and archer." Well it's all coming out at once in a week for NA everyone thats cried about it being a nerf can just go cast vivace and fireball something to see it does more, I'm a giant so I have to max out both new arcanas asap for my +200 int cap and won't get to play dark mage for a week or two depending on how many rb pots they hand me.
As for Heal Sluts, I really don't know because nobody plays HS except my alt which I can clear techs with sufficiently and give my main advance heavy stander so nigger archers off the map don't cancel my fireball loading with a 1 dmg hit. In that context my opinion of Heal Sluts is very high, fixing the worst problem with mage gameplay with a single button press.

I understand, but nobody did techs with Celt before Arcana generally because it was an enormous time sink for arguably shit rewards since this was before the drop rate "buff". Nobody feels good over losing any amount of power because you slowly build up speed and capability - what people do now in 7 minutes could turn to 10. NA is not KR - people hop in to enjoy a game, not 9-5 it for less than a job's earnings. Again, you're looking at the magic attack and vivace changes and thinking "this is a damage decrease based on my own damage". KR DD got huge damage and QoL changes before that patch which we're getting alongside the MA and vivace changes. Even if the MA/VIV changes were a nerf (they're not, it just feels bad to suddenly have to buff after years of it not being required), it would still be a buff overall due to all the other DD buffs, alongside bosses getting severely nerfed magic protection. When patch hits you'll be fine, don't fret too much about it.

What arcana(s) will you be using after Sacred Guardian and Explosive Vanguard come out and you have time to build whichever one you want?
For me, the dream is to be able to seamlessly switch between them to fit whatever the party composition needs for the mission. I will be maining Explosive Vanguard and Dark Diviner though.

I've been on DD until now. Trying to make the switch to max damage gear for SG and EK. Hate taking damage and hitstun so I wanna play SG for the most part. Linebreaker dualwield looks like fun, so could switch to EK every every now and then.
Thinking of the upcoming alchyrana too, but that's much further out and got 0 gear for that as of now. Heatbuster is so cool!

none of the above i'm finishing my NB Cylinder, making a Heat Buster black combo card, using Fergseus event to redeem Perseus Guns, and spamming Heat Buster until Forbidden Alchemist and Variable Gunner release in December/January.
as a sidenote: Heat Buster spam can clear dungeons in 5-6 minutes like Astrologer, the only downside is it's hard to keep up marbles for Elemental Wave while running with a party.
