TGstation is completely unrecognizable compared to even a year ago and more and more longtime players are either getting perma'd, self-requesting bans, or just leaving. It's not consistently fun. It peaks when you're new to the game and haven't seen everything. Once you know it inside and out, then it's extremely round dependent.
/vg/ depends the most on the players, so only 1/5 rounds are good
/tg/ you can just jobbie the game away the whole time, so there are less boring rounds but almost never any great rounds.

The holy grail is an older /tg/ codebase with /vg/ rules+players, but they never last.

The roleplaying and social aspects of the game would definitely appeal to a lot of real women but when the hoes find out about all the autism in this game and the type of men who play it, they'll never want to pick it up again. Can confirm. I used to run a femstatic on a different server a while back because there was a roleplay/name gimmick I wanted to do that would only work on a female character and people were noticeably more receptive. It was like that character became a well-known static pretty much overnight, had people actually trying to talk to my static and they would greet her by name. The name and roleplay gimmick did probably have some part to play in that sudden popularity but I would do stuff like that on male characters and get ignored like usual.
Eventually I stopped playing on that static when that server's troon clique started getting chummy with me and a few people tried to hit on my static IC which made me realize how fucking gay playing as a girl character in a roleplaying game is and hit me with a wave of disgust.

It is scientifically proven that most people have an unconscious bias in favor of women regardless of gender and being a woman is easy mode in real life so it also makes sense it would be easy mode in a social roleplaying game.

For me, the issue with medbay is that you have a VERY limited space to work in, and even one person can make fixing people outside of patient rooms or surgery a complete ballache even without doing anything more than walking in circles
That's only if you're doing it "right" though, the 3x multiheal from a DD+tricord+lifeline+dexplus pill makes medbay a real dawdle even if it does remove the deep and engaging "put the coloured pill into the coloured spaceman hole" gameplay

This game should be more competitive and focused on winning

I don't understand why ending the round is so important. You get more chances to be an antag as the round progresses, and if you end the round, everyone has to go through the standard setup and research stuff again.

If it keeps rolling, you can keep up the action, the action isn't supposed to stop. I will say, dynamic mode right now can suck as the round gets longer. More random antags would be great, there are significant dead periods right now in current dynamic mode.

Goal: coordinated bombing to scramble everyone, so that as an antag, you can waltz in and take your objectives in the chaos.

Approach:
Take backpacks, fill each backpack with a remote signal trigger nitro grenade, and a mousetrap attached to another signaler keyed to that signal. Stash backpacks in key locations on station.

If the detonator is triggered, or if one is opened, all of them go off, and then you start looting objectives.

If you're gonna bomb you better to be ready to get EVA equipment in case your objective gets spaced which may or may not give away the fact that you were the bomber.
Also a mass bombing is the sort of thing that immediately puts everyone onto alert and makes them go survival/robustness mode so even if you succeed in your objective of scrambling the crew, you'll also have told the entire station that there's someone who is valid to kill on sight, the round instantly goes from funny spessman game to space disaster survival simulator once those bombs go off.

Generally if you want to cause chaos to make your objectives easier to achieve, it's better to do it through more subtle methods that also give you IC plausible deniability if you're caught. Shit like comms fuckery, making dangerous contraptions in public places, releasing shit into the hallways, poisoning food/drinks, breaking windows, cargonia rebellion, minor sabotage, etc. All that stuff compounded together will start to affect people in a way that might leave an opening for you to tide into brig or bridge, and it's also stuff that can be chalked up to ordinary tiding so sec officers won't try to kill you for it. Broken window syndrome and all that.

vgstation is fun to egostomp on, the mechanics are actually really fun even though a lot of folks don't use them. The depressed losers will resist any new folks they see (trying to bring you down to their level), you just need to be ready to skill up and outrobust them. They suck at the game, so it shouldn't be hard. Be ready for them to whine about it.

To balance it, there are a lot of cool folks, and admins are less shitty than other servers, but still hit or miss depending on who it is. Yvvel is notorious right now for being a cunt and actively escalating interactions, but he's probably the only one to actually worry about.

The friendly folks will help you, the depressed losers will find ways to try and minimize you. It's some gay clique culture that only comes of social rejects, so maintain your social life while playing!

Otherwise, I haven't really found a server free of these same problems. Interested in hearing about other suggestions myself
