You mean Incarnam quests? They serve as an introduction to a core principle of the game : killing shit to loot resources and craft stuff. Since there are many professions to showcase you got a fair amount of quests. If you aren't a slowpoke it shouldn't take that long. Main quests after that are very different.
Also this is not a WoW clone or something by the way. You aren't obligated to do quests. They can be skipped entirely by just buying whatever they reward.

I don't think the game being old or having a slow progression has anything to do with how fast the discussions move. Most people just read a guide and know what to do next, so there's not much reason to engage in discussions. Not to mention, most people just use general chat for recruiting or asking for help, since it's quicker and more direct.

It's directly tied to how much discussion there is, all old games have dead communities because the games are solved and optimized 20x over, there's guides for everything and nobody needs to ask questions. The only thing people ask is "what class should I play" as if anyone can answer that for them.
There's apps and sites that totally map out the route you should take in the game to be most efficient.
The lack of updates means people clear the game using all these tools then quit and maybe come back in 2 years when there's a couple new quests and dungeons to do (after people have optimized the route and strategy so they don't have to think for themselves of course), further emphasizing how dead the community is.

You can play without Sidekicks.
If you're annoyed by how classes play, it gets better for a several reasons
You want to hit at least level 90 to unlock all first variants of spells, to have a full spell bar.
You want to hit level 100 and hit 11 or 12 AP, the AP turns are designed around.
Even after that, some classes get much better utility variants around level 150.

Anything you particularly like about the game right now? Otherwise it may not be for you.
Or maybe you just dislike Forgelance and think it's not as smooth to control and manipulate your lance?

I've created a spell for dofus retro. it's for ecaflip. it's called 'flush'.
you have 25% of doing fire, wind, water or earth damage.
if the second 'flush' has the same elemental has the previous one: it gains damage.
so for example you cast 'flush' and do fire damage. then you cast flush again and it is fire damage again: the spell damage is higher. and if you happen to cast the spell again and it is fire again, the damage are higher.

Pets can give +20. Some classes have passives that give +20. There are sublimations that give between 9 and 20 (although it’s kinda reserved for endgame).

There is a sublimation called profit that gives you 1 ap whenever you steal at least 1ap, which is a nasty synergy with Sram perfidious attack. The damage per AP ratio becomes insanely high when the steal lands.

Sweet. I'm going to reply as if the second of these wasn't a stealth bump. I ended up getting a bit bored with Huppermage and tried switching to Sadida, it's much more involved. It seems to me that Hupper has a reputation for complexity but I wonder if that's not just pre re-work stuff because what I played was pretty formulaic with its base combo of generating 4 runes easily and then just feasting off all the buffs. Casting 4 elemental spells in the right order is a lot less complex than managing a doll/tree army with Sadida.

It ticks up once every turn up to a max of 12% dmg and 45resist (which is -10% damage taken). You just need to buy 1. But those are mostly for 200+ builds, you can ignore them at low level.

It's both stat focused and mechanics/gameplay focused, the gear requirements are high but you also can't bruteforce endgame dungeons, you need a solid team composition and strategy, it's significantly more difficult than Dofus is once you reach Moon and beyond.

Hupper is S tier currently, but Sram is not so bad, I think the difference there was mostly gear. Sram's role is a self-sufficient DPT, you can kill 1-2 mobs per turn while taking no damage by ending invisible.

you can always respec (either using the free one, grinding the respec quest or just subbing for a week) and if you buy wrong items you can always sell them, so there's nothing wrong with trying to build your own, just make sure to test out every spell you get as your char grows up so you understand their synergies, and maybe also look at a list of all sublimations what options there are before pulling the trigger, you can lose those if you subli a shit item, so that's the only way to screw up (but again just some kamas)

actually not even sure you have to sub to respec now, was able to minus/plus all attributes in a build even without a sub, so the only fuckup would be buying the expensive sublimations and dropping them on a completely wrong item so noone would even want to buy them (close combat subli on distance armour etc)

I love this game: the lore, the graphics, the class design, the overall presentation.

It might sound like a ramble, but the MMO side of it feels almost like faulty game design.

Dungeons. I love them. But let’s say I struggle doing them solo at the required level. My class isn’t brain-dead; it requires a lot of thought each turn. So if I hit a wall, what’s the solution? Faceroll the dungeon with better gear and higher levels, right?

But then, what’s the point? I’m not interacting with mechanics anymore. I just stack enough DPS to ignore them. Is that fun? Am I supposed to enjoy facerolling dungeons instead of engaging with the design? Should I just cheese dungeons and abusing their AI?

Treasure Hunts. Why does this even exist? Instead of bashing my head against a dungeon and wasting kamas buying bread to retry, I could just do treasure hunts. They’re more profitable, right? And the more time I waste in dungeons, the less money I make, the fewer kamas I earn. So why bother with dungeons at all? Shouldn’t I just unplug my brain and grind treasure hunts until level 200? That seems like the most optimized path.

This game feels like a race. The further behind you are, the less valuable the economy becomes, and the weaker your purchasing power gets. It’s frustrating.

The community. I wish it were deeper. I speak French fluently, but I hate interacting with French players. They’re not polite, they don’t care, they just want to curbstomp content. So what’s the point? Is it still a game at that stage?

Help me change my state of mind. I need guidance : deep, philosophical guidance.

Where do I find a community that truely enjoy the game, and its game design?

You need to play either multiple accounts, or with friends. Playing alone becomes a problem very quickly as when you reach higher levels you wont be able to solo the dungeons anyways.
Treasure hunt are not worth it as you compete with bots. Quests are the main way to get exp and money nowadays.

This is the reason why I stopped playing Dofus.
The vast majority of people in this game is already 200 or rushing the game to 200. Everyone minmax now. A shame, because it's a game I enjoyed a lot when I was kids and wanted to replay it today but the community is horrible.

Not to mention the quest design, for many of them, you have to read a guide and it's the only way to gain xp or kamas today. A shame because they're funny, well written and give you a incredible sense of adventure.

the bigger problem is the dung mechanics, you can easily play a sram positioner, but will forever be second grade as 80% of mobs will have push/pull resist making you useless, not sure about reworked classes and if it's still there but initially each color was for different playstyle (sram: air - mobility/placement, water - fow stealing shit, fire - dots with big exe dmg), allowing you to mix and match with neutrals to find a playstyle you like, it still kinda works but some are just way more op than others leading into same builds, I wish they made all S1s soloable as a base (unless some weird mechanics that force more players, but should be the exception), but yeah 150+ are completely team only
