Standardized hangar sizes constrain ship designs by mandating that each ship class have a maximum size and be longer along their Z axis.
This is further complicated by CIG designing the outside of a ship first, and then filling it with whatever they plan to add later. The Idris, Carrack, Polaris, Sabre etc etc are slightly deformed or needed to be bumped up a ship class because they couldn't fit everything into an in-game rendition of the concept art.
The obvious solution would be to add extra extra large hangar sizes, but Destroyers and upwards aren't meant to land on planets. So every player ship going forward will need to conform to the constraints of the hangars we already have.
Anonymous No.1873450 >>1873562
>>1873402
were docking ports in the game when XL hangars were added?
Anonymous No.1873562
>>1873450
I can't remember.
What I do know, though, is that nearly every ship we have is supposed to fit inside a hangar. Everything larger than an Idris can only go in-atmo once before never leaving again.
When talking about the Kraken's reconcepting or whatever, they either need to make it fatter so everything can fit inside or bump it up an an entire ship class, at which point it won't be usable on a planet.
Anonymous No.1873612 >>1873685
>>1873402
class and size are not linked, hangars are not restricted by class, only size. likewise they don't have to be longer on a certain axis, see the reliant. the only constraint is the [massive] hangar size, and realistically only the extra large provides any real constraint because they can just assign a ship to it if it's too big for the others. this is not a real issue

>CIG designing the outside of a ship first, and then filling it with whatever they plan to add later
this is stupid and I agree that CIG is bad. but that's a separate issue entirely, and CIG's own design intentions were that idris and larger sized ships would be persistent, could not go into instanced hangars, and would live in the world perpetually, even when you were logged off. so docking is in line with that.
Anonymous No.1873685 >>1873689
>>1873612
>but that's a separate issue entirely
It's intrinsically linked through.
Here's a fun autism experiment: take four pieces of differently sized graphing paper. Draw a rough outline of your dream spaceship, then try to put all the details you think you might want inside.
After a certain point you're going to need to either expand the outline of the ship to accommodate what you want or just get a larger piece of paper.
The reason why the Polaris (as an example) has such a dysfunctional interior design isn't because CIG is retarded, it's because Chris wanted to maintain the ship's aesthetics while still having the core functionality. Same shit with the Idris and soon to be the Kraken.
There's literally no reason why something like the vulture should have a fucking ladder leading up to the cockpit, but that's because Chris wanted it, not because it's a good design decision.
This kind of retardation translates hangar sizes too, because ships of equal classes are roughly the same size, even though proper functionality would require something like a reclaimer to not have crewmembers act like goddamned baggage handlers.
Anonymous No.1873689
>>1873685
My point being, a lot of this shit is derived from Chris's desire to maintain the outer aesthetics of the ship. Everything else is whatever.

Think I figured out why the Raft elevator keeps getting stuck. I frequently use the open/close all doors keybind, and I suspect that the Raft elevator will hang on the step where it opens the bottom door if it's already open. CIG must've forgotten a failsafe if such a thing happened. Will test later, but I need a reliable way to get in/out of the airlock. Probably just EVA.

I like the Avenger. Due to having interceptor class, it can achieve incredible acceleration and top speed. This means you can enter and exit fights as you please. The downside is that every thruster that isn't the main one can feel pretty weak, meaning you need to learn to compensate. My pick is the Warlock due to it having the EMP, but it is admittedly real l rarely useful due to it taking two emissions to fully distort most light fighters. It takes crazy good timing to knock out missiles with it.

>Freight elevator's terminal UI is broken. When people select cargo crates one-by-one, they add to the current elevator load (in the upper left corner, e.g. "8/120"). When they unselect crates one-by-one, they subtract from that variable. Sounds fine, right? Isn't. You might see the current load as 0 each time you open the terminal, but that's only presentation layer. The way I see it, the real value that's stored on the server never resets to zero.

How I do decoupled with HOSAS
>bind decoupling to thumb on left joystick
>turn off toggle so it only decouples while binded button is pressed
>in fights constantly turning on and off depending on what I need to concentrate on the most
>utilize for staying in a larger moving ship's blind spot while matching velocity
>utilize in pvp for evasive maneuvering and for turning/pitching faster

Some notes unless things have changed since the last time the game was playable:
-Decoupled lets you pitch/turn faster
-Seamlessly switching between the two during fights let's you move less predictably
-Familiarize yourself with the ship HUD. There is a ship velocity indicator going in the ships forward direction and another one 180 degrees to the rear that you can see if you engage decoupled mode and turn to the rear
-Practice flying decoupled by manipulating the forward indicator where you want the the ship to go
-All 6DOF thrusts are necessary for flying decoupled if you want to "thread the needle" while flying
-Use space brakes or coupled mode to slow down or stop when landing

PROTIP: All of this is pointless though because the game is literally unplayable(read: unenjoyable) and absolutely sucks right now

It's only really useful if someone's chasing you and you need to maintain your velocity while shooting back at them.
If you know you're going in a straight line without any objects in front of you, decouple, turn around and start shooting at them.

They have, but the main gripe the community has is that they went ahead with this event, despite the fact that outpost freight elevators have been fucked since their inception last year. Anonymous No.1890156 >>1890168
>>1890134
Unless you are on the development team, neither you, I, nor anyone else in the community would know that for a fact. It may or may not be their intention with this event, but who can be surprised that CIG would run an event with limited-time rewards alongside their supposed "stress test" of a core mechanic (that, again, has been broken for a year straight) and failing communication on the most basic level?
Anonymous No.1890168 >>1891195

I think there is some fuckery going with Idris's insane range.
My Starfarer got 2-3 shot while the comms were up, not a peep from the usual CS notification. Must've been the rail gun.

Was thinking about upgrading my QI to an MX but everyones saying it doesn't have a bed so it sucks.
But... do beds even matter anymore? Feels like CIG are moving away from bed logging and sleeping in a bed will give you buffs in the future.
Is it really that big a deal?
There's only going to be around 5 systems and you'll never be so far from a station where you can land and sleep/eat.
Are beds/amenities really that important other than for roleplay?

>But... do beds even matter anymore? Feels like CIG are moving away from bed logging and sleeping in a bed will give you buffs in the future.
That is exactly what they are doing, actually. CIG is moving away from their original idea with bedlogging, and may only serve as buff providers instead of a core logout mechanic, as talked about here by one of the leads: https://youtu.be/nyl6SquV4rY?t=3182

I feel it is for the best that they are moving away from having beds be the mechanism that allows you to log back in exactly where you left off (especially in a game that does a very poor job respecting your time); therefore, the lack of beds in the MX is not a disadvantage. The only real deciding factor in which JPEG you wish to get is whether its looks appeals to you or not. Balancing, on the other hand, is and always will be volatile and should never be a deciding factor, despite the fact that CIG's intent makes it apparent that the MX will be the tankiest and the most difficult to handle out of the 3 Guardians, while also having a bigger cross section due to its larger hull.

CIG finishes patches a month or two in advance, the majority of the 30 devs working on SC already moved on to the next two patches. It's why they had to roll in what fixes they did for 4.2.1 into a later patch in the 4.3 PTU cycle because 4.3 didn't have those fixes when it went to PTU.

You can liquidate your account for 50-60% of the total value of it at pretty much any point by melting and selling it all as store credit, 65-75% if you do it during specific times of the year. Alternatively if you built really good CCU chains(55% or higher savings) you can attempt to sell the ships individually for profit or a very minor loss. Unless you're 100% sure of completely washing your hands there's no particular rush to sell, especially since the gray market has been very consistent with store credit pricing for many years. You really don't have a lot tied up into the account (unless you bought the original concept for the corsair and liberator, in which case you'd actually probably make more selling those two rather than what you paid) so it may not even be worth the effort of selling except for dumping the Liberator specifically during release week when everyone wants the new shiny carrier and you can probably get a positive return on investment assuming you had a half-decent CCU chain into it.

My game package is Bounty Hunter LTI from the Kickstarter. All I fucking wanted was Freelancer 2 with a multiplayer mode something like the Freelancer Discovery mod. I've been up and down with the game over the years but I've just about lost all faith with CIGs ability to deliver something worth playing. Every time I try to get into the game, if I'm lucky I get a couple decent sessions before encountering a game breaking bug that completely kills it for me. Best case scenario it's a never ending parade of minor jank you can learn to live with until you run into something that just fucking ruins it. I'd rather spend the $50 to buy a game I'll actually play at this point.

My total pledge is at $550 and I feel like a fucking moron for ever putting in another dollar after the Kickstarter, and being rushed by CIGs gay retards for this long. have ok CCU chains on the Corsair (24% savings) and Liberator (50% savings). If that Liberator is built off a referral reward (which it looks like it is) then you can't sell or melt that and you're 100% SoL, so you should check to see if the Exchange or Gift option is in your hangar . You might be able to contact support and request they revert it back to the original reward and add the money put into it as store credit, sometimes they honor that request but usually they don't.
Also that Corsair is pretty valuable because it's built off the Original Concept Raft it looks like, which by itself goes for $150-$180 last I checked, potentially even higher since the RAFT went from zero to hero with the massive buffs it got so you might be able to sell that for ~$200-$220

In this specific case you are correct as there's only $~250 in store credit and all the shit he has is either giftable already or cannot be melted at all but some people have spent several hundred before deciding to quit and have been melting stuff down to turn it into other ships which would render the ships untradable so your choice is to either leave hundreds of dollars in nontransferable store credit on your account and attempt to sell the account (which will never happen unless you have highly sought after extremely rare items that can't be traded), or you melt everything that can't be gifted and use that money on a ship/vehicle you already own that is giftable by buying the most expensive CCU upgrade and selling that. Or spend $20 on an Aurora if you have nothing that's tradable and put all your store credit into a CCU for that and sell at half the value of the store credit and be done with everything within 10 minutes.

Spending $20 to get $300 back in your paypal account is far more preferable for someone who wants to cash out than simply leaving $600 worth of store credit in your account because you didn't want to spend the $20 cashout "fee".

Instead of the broken-by-procedure "issue council, there should be an actual bug racking system open for people who own the game, like jira for example.

The IC system is useless when actual bug regressions continue to get deleted repeatedly because that bug used up the ration of "one fix event per bug" from the vibecode bot already.

It was so long from concept to release that the original floor plan was no longer valid.

I just don't like the color and material choices in the interior, and most of it is pretty barren. Even moving the room labels from being tiny text on the floor to bigger labels on the wall next to the door would have helped.
Honestly though, as a Polaris owner, the biggest problem I have with it was just having reality set in on what operating a ship that size entails, I knew I'd need a big crew and all that but actually experiencing it in practice really made me realize how impractical it is, not just in terms of crew requirement but also just how long it takes to get around the ship and so on. Anything else aside it'd really benefit from some kind of system that'd allow you to access your personal inventory somewhere other than the lockers in the crew cabins. I also really wish they'd found a way to connect the top and bottom floors with stairs instead of making you rely on slow-ass elevators or janky ladders.

Such a server might stay running for hours, if there were more than 5 guys playing who had 48+GB of RAM to safeguard against the most common "memory leak" crashes.

Windows 7, with a modern-enough GPU might have a chance of at least starting, running, and successfully connecting/playing, because of VxKext and the multiple forks that instantly spawned once the original author took the source code down.

pc shutdown is always hardware or OS issue. Check the low-iq ones like power button not being pressed etc. Then after all the nice and easy fixes are tested - its time to look at Power Supply Unit, Motherboard, CPU. Your windows will have an error code for the shutdown if it catches it..
As for why Star Citizen, why QT? SC is very heavy game, easily the heaviest game I have, probably the heaviest game that exists. During QT the game wants to load and unload the planets, ships etc.

For example, I have 3070 with watercooling - its enough for 99% of games, most others have to either run on lower settings or some prototype stuff I work on the game industry is just over the memory limit and wont run well at all..

But Star Citizen is something else. Using Polaris I cant use Atls due to the massive lag making it unusable, I have ~5-10 fps in hangars with polaris.

NTA but I think it might be related to an increase in GPU power draw, edging into the safety shutdown zone rating that may be shown in the "Maximum Ampere Draw" spec of your PC power supply.

If you look at FPS readouts, the FPS goes way up when entering quantum travel, which appears to indicate a significant increase in GPU power usage for rendering, on top of all the memory bandwidth saturation that may be taking place.

Like when you turn off "FPS Cap When Minimized" and all your GPU and CPU fans suddenly start howling out of nowhere, when you dare to use ALT-Tab to check your erkul.games tab.

At least that is what I see with these GPU models: 2060 6GB and RX580 8GB

Also, VxKext for windows 7 players who experiment in spite of the rolling death of systems with outdated spyware updates, such as Windows 7 and XP64.

And this curious funny thing:

NTA, but AT IBM-Compatible PC power supplies from the 1980s and 1990s had mains voltage running all the way to the power switch on the front when the PSU was plugged in, if it was even (rarely) equipped with a secondary disconnect switch on the rear panel.

The successor spec, ATX powersupplies, basically always have volts going into the motherboard, in order to always be ready for the power-on pins to get a closed circuit from your low-voltage front panel power button,...

And also to supply power to run the always-maybe-you-never-know AME/PSP/etc spyware IP blocks in the motherboard chipset and in the CPU package. AME runs/ran Minix on their glowieshit, by the way.

In most cases you will just cause a faultcase if you remove components while the pc is on, not end of the world. but plugging out and in the contacts will cause electrical arc that can damage the components, the voltage is also not correct for the component for a little bit of time so it doesnt love it either.

Mostly you are going to be fine but I personally have had some components, especially amd graphics cards that are soldered on kinda haphazardly and have lost their soldering in normal use, and that soldering can go if you play around with the components enough.

Most if not all PSU should actively stop most problems and the components can withstand a bit of abuse. Most overlockers do their stuff with everything on, but even they usually dont have more than they need on the motherboard. Even if the chance to lose a GPU is 1:1000, you kinda dont want to do it with these prices.

Since dust can conduct electricity, its not like most of us degenerates dont subject the components to runaway currents anyway. Not to mention my power pc was on ungrounded power for years in my last appartment, only symptom was getting electrocuted from the ethernet cables.

TLDR: Don't fiddle with power on if you dont have to, however for the most part it should be fine.

probably something ridiculous like 'going too deep under planets causes rendering to break' and 'fixing it will take at least 10 months to refactor the entire planet position system' and 'along the way we also had to fix 3 other side quests'

You know the reason. It's the same reason for everything being shit in the game.
There is a skeleton crew working on the mmo and everyone else is playing pretend for Chris so he can make believe he's still a big director in Hollywood directing his favorite actors and not a total loser.

Cyberpunk managed to do it and that was a wholly original IP. Still delusional since we won't be getting anything nearly as interesting in terms of story or setting (maybe they can reach BG3 / EX33 levels) and also 80% of the playerbase has already bought it unless they console release the single player

Please answer me honestly. Do you really think that squadron 42 has the mindshare of cyberpunk and gta6 probably the biggest games ever released in gaming history?
Do you actually believe that? No judgement.

I said it was delusional, just pointing out that you can out of nowhere become as big as GTA if you dump enough money into marketing and the game has enough mass appeal / is good enough

>can out of nowhere
I think this is also delusional honestly. Cyberpunk and GTA6 have so much coming before them. Cyberpunk had over a decade of constant hype. When people think about star citizen they think it's a scam because that's the zeitgeist surrounding the game. I don't think that money will make Chris's niche single player game as popular as GTA6.
If I'm being totally honest I think Squadron42 won't be popular at all. Even worse I think it will be a buggy, barely playable mess.

Cyberpunk also had the benefit of being a PnP RPG akin to DnD, and then later picked up by the devs of the Witcher series. GTA is a household name because that series has been thirty years of non-stop bangers.
People know Star Citizen only because they know Digital Anvil, which released kino like Freelancer and Conquest: Frontier Wars. But these things aren't household names.

Cyberpunk was not a wholly new ip and it was not out of nothing. It was hyped like hell and made by the company that made Witcher 3 before it.

I'd think the idea is for S42 is to be compared to GTA6 by jounalists to help pad out their articles/videos, so they can just hitch a ride along rockstar's marketing. Ideally S42 could be spoken of as the PC alternative to GTA6 assuming it is still console-only.

>SQ42
>As big as GTA6
For one, SQ42 is not a sandbox game, it's a linear single-player game, with a branching story at best.
Now, if SQ42 was GTA in space, then there MIGHT be something there, if they leaned into the "independent developer/publisher" shtick and added all the shit that wouldn't fly in a product produced by a public company with shareholders.
He isn't necessarily a completely moron, but I'm worried he just might be too much of a pussy to give the backers what we REALLY want.

They did this and space drag mainly for playability reasons, if there was no drag in space - if you character did not break in space- the game would be pretty hard to play. I understand your autism and I do think there could be some more realism in some things where people exploit it - but SC is not meant to be kerbal space program either afaik.
