Prestige on CatsEye is the greatest thing that ever happened to XI. I absolutely love this shit. I've been addicted to XI like I'm 14 again since that shit dropped, doing nothing but waking up thinking about XI grinding EXP all day, and going to bed exhausted but still thinking leveling in XI again tomorrow. All the EXP camps are active and being used again.

Once you start stacking these prestige bonuses you feel so strong during the early levels, it feels so rewarding. I never thought I'd get sucked in like this by XI again.

I always hated XI's endgame and loved just exping and incremental growth, this is giving me exactly that. And with 22 fucking jobs to level to 75 5 times over i could be doing this for the next year. Yes leveling before ToaU was peak. Actually I would take leveling before MPK nerf and level sync over anything.
Pre MPK + level sync > pre ToaU > post ToaU > Shantotto/Val carry > Abyssea enshittification
No reason to dump down EXP parties like they're pointless or something. There's really no reason you shouldn't enjoy partying, it uses all of FFXI's top tier mechanics (chaining, skillchains, Magic bursts, competition in crowded areas, crowd control, cooperation in party forming, MP management, your reputation matters if you get invited, your job matters and gear) and all of them are at their best in EXP parties. EXP parties are peak FFXI and far surpass the endgame.

I play on CatsEyeXI and am working on all jobs 75 and prestiging them, haven't had to pick a fishing rod up (this minigame should be automated btw, what a dog shit activity) but your post made me laugh cos it's literally the same reason I left. Don't get me wrong I'm just levelling on CE too but all the performance pressure is gone. Actually getting shit done during downtime is crazy too. On horizon if you try to fit anything in before IRL you end up just running one leg of a journey whereas now I can hit multiple objectives quickly (kupo suit and home point warps = I nut). I can see the appeal of CE, but most of the game doesn't exist there, same as Horizon. The difference is that the pop is less cunty and welcoming. I wouldn't mind the cuntiness if there was more to look forward to, but Horizon will never leave its stasis. I'm happy for CE though. Because Wings was the most YOLO launch in the history of FFXI private servers. They just turned shit on and hit go. Mobs didn't have traits on that server for years. The server was unstable and crashed every hour or two. The combat formula was wildly inaccurate. Jobs like BLU and PUP didn't function properly. That is how. Horizon could do the same thing - you'd just end up with the same buggy mess that Eventide has for TOAU content.

All of the TOAU code contributed to LSB by Wings (then Topaz) was purged due to being of poor quality/not working correctly.

Because Catseye did custom work on their code to make it work, work that is not on LSB. They use LSB but have a lot of custom modifications to get it working. Horizon is trying to run on LSB, which has incomplete TOAU, but they are stuck converting their mountain of custom changes to be LSB compatible before they can do so.

Eden being open source doesn't matter that much. Eden is still based on DSP. Even if Horizon or other had access to it, they would need to refactor the Eden code to work on LSB to make use of it.

Horizon's issue was they didn't keep up with LSB, and kept making custom changes. They could rebase right now, but they would have to drop all of the custom changes. All custom content and balance changes is what the rebase is - converting those into LSB friendly code. By adding custom stuff, they've fucked themselves unless they either rebase to LSB or fork from LSB entirely. Aerec does not have the technical skill to perform the rebase, so all of his and other "devs" changes that work when not synced with LSB now have to be done properly.

The biggest problem we have in this community is the lack of social and communication skills. People grew up with this game from early 2000s to 2010s, never went outside or socialized to have irl friends during their teenage years.
