New races (High Elves, Goblins)
New race/class combos (Dwarf Mage, Troll Warlock etc.)
New zones, dungeons, raids and thousands of quests designed with "classic", lore-friendly sensibilities. Warcraft II/III in particular receive a lot of love from the developers.
Slow leveling pace; it's not a rush to the endgame
Devs actually listen to feedback, probably agree with you and don’t hate you

Cosmetics and QoL only. Mount skins, pets, bags, assistants etc. No gear, no gold. Gold Sellers are taken care of long before it becomes a problem and GDKP = instant ban. Devs hate whales.

PvE server peaks at >9000 and PvP server peaks at >2000 daily.

Server is hosted in EU. It's been running since 2018 so... I think we're pretty safe.

I agree with this but at some point you have to up the ante when a majority of players have cleared Naxx >25 times. You're not only designing classic-inspired raids, you're designing for a playerbase that has been playing classic for over 20 years.

On a nostalgia server I get the appeal of fresh servers but classic+? 75% of the custom content is in the leveling zones. Why would I want to rush through it?

Fresh server is too much of a gamble in my opinion. People might stay. People might leave. Then you're stuck with a server that's hopefully 'dead enough' to warrant a merge/closure. Tel'Abim doesn't make me optimistic.

Turtle should be 10x as popular as it currently is. Maybe the Unreal client will give it the attention it deserves to fill up 2-3 servers around the clock, but again, that's a gamble.

The reason Tel'Abim is "empty" (2k on average is a great population for a server) is because it's pvp and most people don't care about world pvp in wow. Even in the offical servers pvp servers are only populated when they are 99%-1% for either faction.

So how does WoW work? Is there an Alliance story and a Horde story and I need two characters to experience everything? Are Dwarves a fun race? I'd pick Worgen as my Alliance choice for completely normal reasons but they don't exist yet.

You will probably need more than two characters unless you're willing to be overleved as fuck while doing quests from other races. Also like the other anon said there is no overarching plot line (this is a good thing) instead each area has their own little plotline and you're just another soldier fighting in many small conflicts here and there.

This was one of WoW's greatest decisions back in the day desu. There are so many MMOs and RPGs out there where your character is already The Chosen One and the most important person in the world from level 1 which makes even sillier when you're doing a quest to save a cat from a tree while the world is ending on the background. Even retail wow suffers from this fate.
In Vanilla WoW you are just a grunt climbing up the ranks and making your own story. If you decided to take some time off to learn to cook it doesn't really matter, the world does not revolve around you.

also make a lvl 1 in elwynn right now and turn on warmode and record yourself hitting lvl 10, I will give you 500g if you don't die once to a lvl 1 twink rogue during 1-10.

I'd like to start playing Vanilla for real but the questing pace is sincerely way too boring for me. Does it get better or is this how it goes the entire way through?
