Ranked is a shitshow right now. dropped everyone back down to silver again, even people who made silver last season are still there (instead of bronze or rookie). And no one knows how to drop to loot a POI. everyone clumps in the middle and leaves half the POI unlooted.

This update is fucking horrible. The RE is so OP it's ridiculous, I get downed before I even hear it go off. It also somehow feels like it's even more ape-y than usual and premades are just running down the lobbies even more.

we can only come to the conclusion that they accidentally screwed up how ranks work (on purpose) just like literally every season since 0. Remember that ranks don't really explain how good someone is by itself, but is a measure on how much time you put into the game. Last split I could fill a chalkboard with people in upper plat/low diamond who were level sub 200 and had no damage, no map awareness. You can be dragged up kicking and screaming by the matchmaking engagement technology :tm:.

You'll notice a consistent theme for many people is asking for things to even the playing field and putting heavier weight towards proper skill deciding outcomes. Before dropping on another squad could just boil down to who lands on the better gun, who gets cells, who is in a premade and can coordinate punching out one specific guy to make it an easy 2v3, etc. In theory this is a good idea for a competitive gamemode.
Respawn doesn't want that.
You'll also notice from time to time Respawn will "cave" to these people but in very specific ways. Usually it will be so disastrous that they can backpedal immediately and others will claim that it "made the game worse", thus justifying Respawn in ignoring unbalance and uncompetitive play again with the justification that it's more fun by comparison to their sabotaged changes. Also, if they continued doing this correctly, it would invariably lead to people noticing how unjustifiable AA is more and more until they'd be forced to fix it for real, something they absolutely will not allow.
Everything boils down to Respawn demanding and maintaining "control" of the game, from meta, player mindset, perception and more. This is incredibly common for casinos, which is why I recognize it.

Wildcard is great practice. The fact that nothing matters in this mode and you can respawn every 5 seconds if you die, while still playing against real people, means you can just try out guns you'd normally avoid.

I find teammates in wildcard less toxic than standard BR, as the rapid, unlimited respawns make it less frustrating to get knocked, and the chaotic nature of the mode has players understand that it's mostly a free-for-all until the later rounds.

While this is true, and they generally do this (looking at you, S13 ranked, and you clubs), I feel like they did this kinda right. Also, they /have/ to do it right just for the tournament fags. They may turn it off next split if there is enough bitching. I think it needs to stay up a couple of seasons to really see if it's worth while. This game needs to have changes to its formula once in a while to keep it fresh. People keep pointing to the way F*rtnite innovates in order to keep things fresh. Some things work, some things don't.
I think it's possible to be a pushy/contesting team if you get two other guys who know how to loot a POI properly, or you can speed date your randos (at higher ranks) into doing so. Also, the yellow caches a placed in a way that draws teams to come fight. And the best part is you won't get the dreaded random third party if you do it right (most of the time).

Problem with charge rifle is it's designed into a corner. Gotta keep it like its titanfall design (it was for killing titans, btw) to keep its identity, but that makes it a poking/ambushing weapon.
Similar ttk issue with the havoc. If you're not prefiring it on a push, you're basically dead.
Then again, I remember 10 seasons ago when turbo was gone people were calling it dead, then 5 ago people were calling it broken and "meh duh". You can't balance around what's en vogue. The pros are idiots and decide what's the best, and everyone follows. With all that said, you're right about the rock-paper-scissors, but at the end of the day play guns you don't miss with. Volt is super comfy.

haven't watched any streamers in a long time but I figured out real fast that the RE-45 hits way too hard and functionally knocks a blue shield without attachments. Dirty thirty fits really well because every ranked map is so open. Been enjoying a bit of Rampage too as a sub, because you can plink with it, and bring down doors if you like.

I think one of the pitfalls of the BR genre is how some people treat it like a MMORPG or something, where they get a weird attachment to the items they pick up (even though you're not going to keep any of that shit anyway) or their neurons just fire too fucking hard whenever they pick up something shiny. The game is a first person shooter foremost.

Check out "mixtape" in the menu: bring up the game modes by clicking the picture above "ready" when you're lobby host. It has (team) gun run, TDM, and control (control point capture) all on a 15 minute rotation. I get it that you don't want to grind.You've got a lot to catch up on, so don't feel to bad. Every gun has a recoil pattern that can be somewhat mitigated by pulling down to the left or the right. Also there's a way to mitigate the pattern by aiming and strafing (look up a vid on aim smoothing).
Hold your friends to warming up with the shooty game modes. I was introduced to the game by guys who would pick up the longbow and would try to snipe. Only one of them was decent in CQC and when I surpassed the sniping friend, he lost interest in the game. lol. If you're competitive minded, it might scratch the itch during the learning phase, but be forewarned, the kiddie pool is shallow and short lived, then they throw you with the sharks. Again, just be outcome independent and learn to shoot your gun. Pick a few to learn and you'll be good.

The gameplay has been changing a lot in the last year now that they havent been expanding the legend roster every season and focused on balancing. I feel confused everytime i load this game up after patches, so much "buff clutter" or whatever you want to call it.
like all the legends share various abilities that used to not just be unique to classes but also to specific legends, like the Conduit speed boost (which is a good change but i think should only have been a buff for the controller legends or somthing)

Caustic is the biggest faggot in the world, you don't get to choose where your team drops in ranked anymore (it's like straight shot where every team gets a designated zone to land in), and wildcard is a new game mode where you can spawn in infinitely (starting as little as within 5 seconds of dying) as long as you have a teammate who's still alive (and there's no restriction on picking a legend even if someone else already picked it)
