NW launch was the most fun I've had in an MMO in a long long time. Lots of people flagged for PvP and despite it being no stakes the combat made it really fun. Unfortunately once you realized how shallow the game was the fun vanished.

PvP is mainly in the PvP zone and influence races. The open world races usually get a good stack of 50+ people on a point during weekends.. Population seems steady while people are waiting for season 10 to drop. Lots of people getting prepared.

The instanced PvP also has a lot more maps like new OPR, 3v3, and capture the flag maps which can be kind of fun and they are cross server matchmaking. Overall aside from the faggots using aimbot the game is way better. Only game im playing right now because every game is currently shit. Will probably play the new season for a couple weeks and ditch the game until the LOTR game comes out.

Yeah theres really not a huge incentive to harvest until after 65 unless you are on a fresh server. Its better to just keep upgrading dropped gear until 65 and the MSQ will give you enough cash to buy upgraded harvesting tools and better bags and proficiency boosters for actual gathering. At this point I'm just doing the MQ along with any faction quests that pop up nearby while flagged. I play on lowpop hours, and so far I've only run into one guy who was flagged and wanted a fight. I main musket, but I wasn't really feeling rapier as a secondary. What other melee weapons complement muskets? I'm surprisingly liking Sword and Shield, but that max level artifact Greatsword in the season rewards looks like it's meant for a long range musket build with its ranged damage increase. Will sword and shield lock me into tanking when it comes to PvE content, since I hear musket is only ideal for PvP? I'm liking the middle ground of medium armor, but I'm not sure how that will turn out at endgame.

I run musket/bow. Basically the build has almost 0 health. Basically max out speed and evasion perks and put a ton into damage. I try to just not get hit by anyone and run if I need to. Its not the meta but its fun to play and I get some pretty nasty kills on people + put a lot of damage out.

Not in the way it was. New World alpha 2/Preview era had shared cooldowns across weapons (Pressing R on one weapon would initiate the cooldown of the R on your second weapon (the limit at the time)) and stagger on light/heavy attacks but also slower attack speeds (rapier wasn't in the game).

The combat was actually almost perfectly designed at a fundamental level and just needed more weapons and content added that would suit that style. It was about as good an adaptation of Souls combat as you could possibly make in an MMO and people used to spend hours in huge fight camps outside of cities for no material benefit, just for the fun of the combat.

Then Alpha 3 came and they progressively ruined it in favor of a mass crowd PvP system where you just spam skills on cooldown. Initially cooldowns being independent did make PvE flow better, but also made basic attacks in PvP almost useless as someone always had a cooldown ready to hyperarmor through you. Adding jump and removing basic attack stagger just cemented the zero-skill mash skills into crowds of people combat that you got at launch.

The original combat system was carefully designed by designers from fighting games, and reworked by retards with no experience in anything but a skill for flattering the clueless studio head and finding the dumbest faggot on the alpha forums to point to in order to justify your changes as "listening to the community."

The funniest irony was that the same Alpha patch that they implemented an actual duel feature that people had been requesting for months was the same patch in which they removed basic attack stagger, along with the playerbases desire to duel.

Unity Daggerfall's multiplayer got enemy sync in dungeons a few years ago. Most of Morrowind is playable without issue in TES3MP. Skyrim Together works as long as you play as a dedicated party. Just waiting for OnBlivion at this point. There's plenty of ways to play TES online without actually playing TES: Online.

Honestly, I'd even say ESO survives more because it's less of an online experience. Most of the people playing it aren't playing it like an MMO or as a cooperative party outside of the designated content. It's just about being able to share/show off the fruits of your solo playthrough to others.

there are 3 types of companies in new world.

sweaty warring companies that literally become your job, you have training schedules (basically join opr with your warring premade group), bi-weekly one on ones with your role leads where they watch your most recent vods and tell you what to improve on. you're expected to be on at least a couple hours every day. war pvp is entirely different from small scale pvp so even if you're good at duels and arenas that doesn't mean you'll be good at wars so expect to spend weeks if not months benched

hybrid companies, basically just social guilds with a discord. companies that do both pve and pvp are shit at both, but if the guild is big enough you can find a half decent static group to do your weeklies without having to beg on recruitment chat or compete for spots on the nwpve discord

m3 companies. not as sweaty as war companies because pve is more on the casual side but if you're aiming for leaderboard rankings you do need a bunch of BiS gear and also unmute your mic. imo people from these guilds are the most autistic because they can spend hours replaying a single dungeon to perfect their rotations and it's annoying

Depends on your idea of fun and if you're PvE or PvP focused. For PvE not much changes compared to other MMOs, tanks set the pace, have the most responsibility, are the ones expected to shotcall, need to be aware of their taunt cooldowns and need to be ready to swap gear and weapons on the fly depending on the boss they're fighting. Tanking is definitely not new player friendly. I'm a healer in PVE mostly because it's such an easy and laid back role. You aren't expected to do annoying mechanics, you just need fast cooldowns and swap to your voidblade once all your AoE heals are down and start wacking mobs. DPS are usually the ones doing mechanics, like getting the seed/carry the fire in Genesis or killing egg spawns in Medusa, depending on the type of DPS you also need to be swapping to your secondary to debuff bosses every few seconds. Weapons used depend on teamp comp and dungeon in question.

I'm not familiar with war PvP but for small scale PvP the way I see it there are 5 archetypes. Pocket heals, runner pocket heals use hatchet or rapier as secondary, more active pockets will use spear, ice gauntlet or void gauntlet to stun or root enemies while your DPS kills them. Melee assassin which relies on combos/stun or stagger locking, debuffing before using your biggest damage skill, weapons used are usually SnS, hatchet, greataxe, greatsword, spear. Lifetaker ranged glass canons, basically musket, bow, firestaff, with lifetaker void gauntlet or similar artifact secondary to buff your main ranged weapon. Stamina management heavy tanks, basically you aggro a bunch of bots somewhere irrelevant like roads to thin enemy team's numbers on capture points, if you know how to manage your stamina and pots you can survive 1v6+, usually going for SnS, hammer, ice gauntlet, flail. Hybrid kiters that are basically ranged with a melee weapon secondary that can be used to either run away (hatchet, rapier), debuff (spear, hatchet), or finish enemies (bleed rapier)

Dude this same thought crossed my mind. I've been a massive NW hater, have one of the highest voted/awarded negative reviews on steam. Constantly shitpost on the discussions about how awful it is. But yet there is no alternative that even comes close. Every MMO that is talked about on this board sucks absolute ass. I just uninstalled it because I figured it would be a waste of time trying to explore the new area with all the people hogging the nodes and mobs. But those season pass skins look nice. Might have to come crawling back.

Can't speak for this latest update but like a year ago they release a Free-For-All area in the bottom left of map with forced pvp flag and you HAD to nosedive into it weekly to obtain a golden coconut to upgrade gear to 725. As well as several artifact perks requiring FFA activities. A lot of pve players raging for a year straight.

worth getting into as a new player? i'm typically a pve minmaxer but i don't necessarily have a problem with pvp. it was great in gw1/2. are healers just healbots or can they do respectable damage too? how strict is the "meta" for picking weapons (i don't know anything about how weapons/skills work) and are there a lot?

other options were removed this patch sadly (there used to be a gem that added Focus scaling to any weapon), so at the moment you can only use those two

you could maybe make do with a hybrid scaling though, but that's removing from CON so you'd be less tanky

you can swap your build at any point without leveling another character. you can reallocate your stats, weapons are leveled independently, and you can swap gear/weapons.

every weapon combination is viable in pvp if you like it enough to master it, for pve you will have to wait for new metas to start popping up but you will need to level all weapons either way if you want to be taken seriously in the harder pve content, people will expect you to swap builds if needed

hit level 19 or so. anything I should know about stat points, crafting, or some other systems I may not have picked up on? i'm doing the main quest and whatever side quests i happen to stumble upon. not hating but really not loving the combat, weapons feel really samey and simple and skills are very limited with long cooldowns.

Flails are technically xpac only but since you just have it baseline you can craft one if you want. I think there's even a sidequest that rewards an okay rare one early on in the 2nd zone you go to.

It's still a pretty fantastical setting where you've got former Roman legionaries hanging around with people from the Tang Dynasty. I could believe some psycho that lived there for 2 thousand years just said fuck it and made a giant hammer to see if he could.

Been waiting years for pistols, using musket in the meantime but I'm more of a close range musket rapier. Feels like this setup get shittier every update. Musket does absolute trash damage unless you're going nocon and use lifetaker as secondary, and now with the attunements being able to stack as well as the new elemental set it feels like they're pigeonholing muskets to go full glasscanon range with void as secondary. I feel so handicapped every time I fight a musket void, they can 2-3 shot me and I have to basically land 2 or 3 times more shots than them if I want to win

I can't believe that at launch I quit because watermark and elite chest runs were the worst end game of any mmo in history. Came back a bit before s10 release and had fun leveling up a new character. Now S10 endgame is once again elite cheat runs to get gear and umbrals, otherwise it's standing semi afk looting tower of sun

AGS just nonstop shooting themselves in the foot. You'd think the would make catacomb rewards good and funnel people to the new mode. Having ECR and Tower the meta for gearing is so fucking abysmal, and everything is bind on pickup so you can't realistically just make money doing other activities and buy gear.

Sun gear is trash. No infixes and no set bonus. Everyone camping there is braindead. How tf is it meta. The raid drops the best set bonus. ECR is popping because it has infix and umbrals. Infix gear should have some more sources outside of ecr, I would agree on that.
