I'd gladly learn any other game than a 1v1 fighting game that pits you against people that have been practising for decades and scream "GIT GUD" on reflex. I'm not memorizing 10 spreadsheets of frame data and giving myself RSI for little benefit. Practically any other modern game gives you more reward for effort spent, which is why the fighting genre is either slowly dying or becoming more casual.

You make it sound like you'd enjoy climbing Mount Everest naked. Everyone wants to put their effort into some cause, but it always has to be proportional to a reward, because we're all human.
You may enjoy practising combo execution for hours in a padded cell, but to me it just sounds like work instead of fun. The only part of fighting games that appeals to me is the strategy, which is why I only ever got competent at YOMI Hustle (why can't /doko/ play that?)

When it comes to recreation, the reward itself is secondary, it is the enjoyment you had while puting in effort that gives it meaning. The win or the loss is simply the result of your effort.
In the example of the naked everest, if you enjoy climbing as is, and for some reason you really enjoy surviving in extreme temperatures while naked, then climbing the everest naked would simply be doing 2 things you enjoy at the same time.
The result can bring a satisfaction of it's own, but I think it's a seperate thing. It is like a confirmation that your effort had some meaning - personal, or otherwise.

there is two things to practice in fighting games: combos and landing the first hit
combos only increase the damage your first hit deals by letting you follow it up with more hits, but modern fighting games either have a decent enough autocombo/gatling series (press the attack buttons in order from weakest to strongest) that you don't really need long combos in the beginner and intermediate levels.
getting the first hit is the interesting part of fighting games, be it in "neutral" when neither player has a clear advantage, "footsies" where players dance in and out of each other's attack range trying to bait a missed hit to whiff-punsh, or when one player is on the defence and is looking for a way to break into the offence and start taking his "turn". it's also the only one you need an opponent to practice with. arguably, this is where the fighting of fighting games is, where you actually interact with the opponent, so having longer combos means you play less fighting game per match of the fighting game. so don't practice combos, practice getting a clean hit in.

plus, there's always scrublords on or below your level, as long as the game has like 100 players it'll have all skill levels represented, especially in this thread where all the people are bad at games. and if all else fails there's turn based fighting games like YOMI Hustle or the tabletop games BattleCON and Exceed

I got this and I really like it. Plays exactly like DJMAX, literally 1:1 gameplay wise, down to the same timing window. The only differences are that it's not keysounded and instead of side notes, there's a big, gear wide single tap note called pitch note.
The soundtrack is full of music composed by well known composers from DJMAX and other rhythm games, including some who left the series a long time ago like Forte Escape and Planetboom. The rest are licensed music from games, vocaloid producers and chuubas.

you made most of the beginner mistakes in the book.
remember that no matter what, go is a game about encircling territory. in the early game, i captured a lot of territory because you were attacking me and not connecting your stones.
it's easier to encircle corners rather than sides or center, so generally you should start at the corners and build from there to the sides and center. it's also a lot harder to attack corners than the middle because i only need to protect 2 sides. it's good to attack corners but you need flexibility to instead capture the side before continuing to attack corner.
here is a position from the game to understand what a good move is. any of the moves marked here are fine moves because all of them either extend your territory (purple) or reduce white (green).
at this point, white is much better already because white has already encircled like 30-40 points while black has encircled 0 points.
but there is still a game here despite this. i think you did well at the bottom, white got the better deal but atleast black got a solid wall to play from and he will surely get like 15 points from that in the future if nothing goes wrong.

it is. traditionally it's one extra stone per kyu rank difference.
if a beginner starts at 25 kyu, then in theory I should be able to win with a 15 stone handicap. and likewise a 1 kyu can beat me with a 9 stone handicap.
it's a very deep game and I have barely scratched the surface.
