it's a great casual social theme park mmo. there are no real challenges other than tard wrangling morons in group content. there is very little depth to building and gearing. the story is trash. what the game succeeds amazingly at is making players want to do open world content with hordes of other randoms. it makes the game so much more inviting and alive than mmos where everyone is camped outside of one dungeon in endgame and the rest of the shit is dead as fuck or everyone is siloed in their guilds and discord servers.

Race doesn't matter
Necromancer, Ranger, Revenant are hard to go wrong with. Only class to be mildly cautious about is Ele and Engi since they have (typically) 3x many buttons to press but put out exactly the same DPS

Yes, it has a great (but not very challenging) open world experience. None of the content becomes out of date, unlike most competitors.

It's sad that this is obvious bait. The game had brilliant potential. 2nd best mmo pvp after WoW with none of the grind, and a ridiculously incompetent balance team along with neglect ruined it for everyone.

For me, it has been dead for years now. Played since launch to EoD. A lot of fun, a lot of dear moments, a lot of rare and grindy achievements. But the amount of enshittifications from the Arenanet broke me. The game went from "the game that respects your time" to "we're now too big and you're too involved, so shut the fuck up and be milked".

This, and dogshit abysmal story with awful, awful characters and development. The only ones I tolerate are Rytloc and sassy plant man (I even forgot his name), and both of them are one-dimensional joke characters while I must suffer through another "chapter" of the rest of the cast. And to think, I was very optimistic when they were all introduced around Dry Top storyline!

I was also optimistic when the story went to the dark forest of Bjora Marches... just to get a literal years of fucking Hitler Scar from the Lion's King with a much-needed lessons of "war sucks" and ofc "who know who is right?..". Fuck it. Fuck all arenanet writers.

For new players, I'm sure it is very fun and still holds great on a solid foundation. I just hope that GW3 will show arena still has talent in the studio besides 3-4 good level designers on life support.

Even a lot of visual novels are more interesting to look at because they show emotion or interesting background

Incredibly boring. Everything is too easy, drops are tailored. I was constantly being thrown items and dogshit that I could equip within the first 15 minutes of the game but none of it mattered. Everything died slightly faster despite nearly instantly dying without putting a dent in my health anyways.

And storywise? gw2 was never strong on the story, but they have navigated themselves into a corner. The asurans, and with them the pact, is so strong, whats even there to stop them? they are stargate post season10 levels of powerful, even more honestly. This story is over. The world of gw is conquered and everything new is retarded bc it would need to go through hoops to write away the superiority of the rat. They should have never went the magitech route.

Is the new expansion any good? I only really play WvW but it's fun to play once every few months

Haven't really played Guild Wars 2 for long. As a fan of the first game i really liked the war against the Charr. I was very disappointed how the SFlame Gleion disappeared. They could have been an hostile empire that would wage war against humans and the Charr player characters.
