Oldest SMP Minecraft online is getting taken down.
Microsoft is taking down Minecraft Online for having freedom of speech.

Ohhhh nooooo that's so horrible! What examples of free speech are upsetting them?

It's probably fake. I looked it up on Reddit as well and the only person saying anything is someone called Ertttum_ who made his account less than a week ago (and is for some reason throwing his weight about with "WE" and "US"), and his only source is a (easily doctored) discord screenshot.

Googling the text of the email brings up fuck-and-all, and looking through Reddit threads has a lot of people making all sorts of accusations but nobody seems to provide any real evidence of their claims.

Also this is the only time I've seen a company dare to encroach on content on a third-party platform that wasn't related directly to legal issues like copyright infringement. If this isn't fake as fuck, it is at the very least staged by the MO admins.

You clearly haven't been doing too much digging then. They have a whole page on their server wiki dedicated to all the all the times they've been confronted by Mojang with a blacklist.

it's a case of "we sold you software but we still want to dictate how you can use it", which is straight up illegal

One question. Are people connecting directly to the server via URL or IP, or is it through a curated list owned/operated by Mojang or its parent companies? If the former, that's a problem, if the latter, Mojang is under zero obligation to platform anyone on their lists.

according to the wiki article above, it's a client-side blacklist
it says it prevents the client from connecting to a particular server, even when there is no intermediary

I assume that this cannot be bypassed with a simple method? Meaning no editing of .ini files, installing mods, et-al?

Does it matter? 99% of people won't do that, even if it is easy
