Pokemon like Leavanny and Masquerain are tricky to put in the right places because they're ultimately an amalgamation of different types of bugs. I went with mantis simply because I felt like that'd be what most people would pick to put Leavanny.

From the beta we know shuckle is quite literally not based on any insect, being only a rock type. Replace with Kingler, who always should have been water/bug.

I was originally just going to make the Bagworm table Wormadams but Bulbapedia said that Accelgor might be based off of a bagworm pupa and that was good enough for me.

Nope, in the Gold beta Shuckle is a mono rock type. The bug typing seems to have been randomly tacked on later on, probably after they decided that basing a pokemon on snake wine might be too dark or weird.

It's too bad they went for "safer" designs for a lot of Pokemon in Gen 2 (I'm thinking of the Remoraid line, Hitmontop, Girafarig, Mantine...)
