you now remember Koharu was so unlikeable that they tried to lump her with a more popular character

Not a Marniefag, but I don't understand why they didn't use her as co-protagonist. She already had a fanbase, you could have used her alongside Hopp and Bede to tell the Galar story and let Ash do his thing in the background. It was a safe bet. Why force an OC that no one asked for? And worse, try to fill episodes with her.

You hired a famous seiyu, so you might as well use her for a main character like Gloria.

Journeys didn’t want to staple itself to a specific gen, the only Galar shilling it did was a couple arcs here and there

It's weird how they tried to push Koharu into the generic route of being a cooridanator, but later have her end up as a professor assistant. I vastly prefer the latter choice.

Idk about you guys, but Koharu feels like she is kind of on the spectrum

Don't know what was the point. It's not like Journeys did anything that justified giving Galar the shaft. The world tour idea was a really great one with unlimited potential, but given how it was so horribly botched, they might as well just stuck with the one region per gen as usual.

I don't understand what happened with this character. They started with a unique character (someone in the pokemon world who could give less of a shit about pokemon) who worked as a good foil with the overenthusiastic Ash and autistic Goh, then made her discover she enjoyed the rush of battling with Yamper... and then just stuck an Eevee on her.
I really thought she was going to turn into a battler, not an eevee whore.

It really would've been a refreshing change of pace to have a character that doesn't care about Pokemon.
But such a character isn't useful for marketing purposes I suppose, and the moment they stuck her with an Eevee, I knew it was all over for her character. Her only reason for existing at that point was to be Eevee's chauffeur.

They wanted the Fujo audience.

That would not have worked at all and it's not a safe bet. You might as well cut off Ash if you are going this route.

>Don't know what was the point.
Pokemon Go was so popular that TPC knew that an extremely large portion of both current and new fans were never going to play SwSh and were also never going to see the gen 9 mons as the new and shiny exciting additions to the franchise, so they wanted to deemphasize the new stuff and market everything as roughly equally as important.

I don't think anyone here has had much exposure to the dub of the newer anime. For all the pre gen 8 main characters you're going to get used to their localized names because of the games being played in english.

>The world tour idea was a really great one with unlimited potential
They had the perfect excuse to travel through old and new locations and bring back old characters or characters from the games that at the time could not appear, for example a special with Jessie traveling to Guyana and discovering the remains of her mother (Perhaps using only her earrings as symbolism), an episode in a native reserve in White Forest, Unova with Benga the grandson of Alder, a mini-arc with the Ultra Squad and visiting the worlds of the UBs, Peony becoming Goh's mentor instead of the Mew project with Calirex and its horses, returning to Johto and facing Neo Team Rocket, Ash and Bea receiving training with Mustard, some joke about the frozen and no man's land Tiksi with the appearance of Melony and her family, the punchline being that the Silph.SA employee is Melony's husband and thanks to his transfer they met, a mini arc vacationing in Lental and focused on the Lumina Pokemon, some episode with Tina in Passio, obviously only using the original characters from that game like Lear and Team Break.

My biggest complaint is that, with the exception of a few episodes, the series seemed to stick to the same two locations, when this should have been the greatest journey, with rare lands to explore with each episode and culminating in a world championship where you could see representatives from every corner of the world.

>Jessie traveling to Guyana and discovering the remains of her mother
It always felt dumb to not include anything related to her mother in the anime when Mew is so important to one of the main characters. The whole project Mew stuff felt haphazardly thrown together with Mewtwo being relegated to a single episode and all the other anime Mew lore like Team Rocket's attempts to find it and the tree of beginning being ignored.

This so much. It could have been a true celebration of the anime, while still promoting whatever merchandise TPC wanted, and given areas/characters/Pokemon that were never given a chance/properly represented in the past gens their time in the anime. I don't know how you fuck up something with this much potential so badly, but yet, they did...

It isn't that she gave a shit about pokemon and more that she was tired of people associating her with them because her dad was a prof. Her whole arc was basically that she had the right to pick her own life and she just had to realize it. A magical Ponyta had such a strong wavelenght with her that she dreamt about it needing help and took a plane to Galar just to rescue it. The Eevee thing ties back to her lack of goals, Eevee can't properly evolve into anything so she will take care of it and present different life perspectives to it along the way until it decides what to become just like her.

She eventually came to understand that Go and Ash were cooler than she was giving them credit because they both had a proper goal in life. And everyone else she meet along the way also had their own agendas unlike her that was just going to take it easy until she decided what to be.

You'd be surprised at how many mongoloids in /padt/ still watch dubs and toss around weird dub names like "Ludlow" and "Orla". Only reason I know those characters even HAVE different names in the dub is because dubfags post so much.

Tomiyasu thought they were writing a complex character with Koharu—simply put, that was the intention.

Koharu had a dilemma: she didn’t like Pokémon despite her dad being a professor. She started to break down emotionally, eventually warming up to Yamper and becoming yet another “Eevee girl.” one of the culminations of her character arc was joining Ash and Goh on their adventures.

She was an asshole and had a personality like Penny that the writers had to tone down as the series progressed. The funniest part is that she and Goh weren’t even included in Ash’s retirement arc, because according to the teraleaks the writers didn’t think they were relevant enough.
