It's no different than any other company endorsing celebrities.
Pokemon needs recognizable faces, and who else is there if not the self-proclaimed "Champion"? What are they going to do, pay some Ed Sheeran or Christina Aguilera to look into the camera with their soulless celebrity eyes and tell people how they loooove Pokémon?
