In my experience the Johto legends collection was really good value for money. Because it sat on shelves for ages with such a high initial price, they discounted it significantly towards the end of last year, and I picked up one with some pretty solid pulls. Sure, the perceived value can make something more aesthetically pleasing to people. And good looking cards are usually the ones that will attract the most attention. But the main interest is still value.

Value informs and affects how people appreciate the look of cards/products more than the look affects value. It's why people care a lot about objectively shitty looking cards, because of their value on the market. And also why some cards that have far better art and design, will be 'underappreciated', because the community and market hasn't attached value to the cards.

Like let's not lie, something like the OG Base Charizard is a shitty looking card. Mitsuhiro Arita has never been a great artist, except for a few of his cards. But it's story is legendary, and people will love the card regardless of how bad it actually looks.Conversely, you will have cards like Cresselia art rare from SHF, or the Dragonair art rare from 151 that people don't like as much because they don't have value.
