It’s knocking most basics out. But the idea of the deck is to outlast opponents that aren’t one shotting you. Given rotation, there’s no boss, counter catcher, or raging bolt to worry about. Accelerating energy is trivial with ogerpon. Everything slows down as we lose Arven, Iono, and Research, the 3 most played consistency supporters. Gusts are going to be a lot less good and decks will slow down, while grass has ogerpon to cycle and bug catching set. Venusaur itself has the new mega item. It can definitely be a deck to consider.

Gholdengo is rotating too. Besides typlosion and charizard+dusclops, there's not too much that can ohko it currently. Dragapult blowing up a dusknoir still doesn't kill it. Even zekrom can only OHKO venu at 5 prizes
Emboar decks could pop up as reshiram is broken like zekrom, but can KO venu way earlier too

380 HP may honestly be fat enough post rotation to survive. but I imagine other megas will also have broken cards so they can beat each others.

There will be two more sets of megas to consider before rotation happens. It remains to be seen whether the only gusting used will be prime catcher and lisia or if decks will be including dubwool/hariyama. Those will still target your benched ogerpons.

The noctowl package is unaffected so Eevees are still a thing after rotation. Slyveon for annoyance, Leafeon for healing, and Flareon to get energy into play. Flareon-ex can also power itself up in the active because it can tank a 240 damage hit from venusaur.

Tool scrapper enables decks to run watch tower instead of jamming tower, which really cucks eevees. Also flareon still has to commit to the 2nd attack for it. You're probably better off using sylveon and shuffling their venusaur/energy into deck

Would the Mega Mechanic be better if they were designed like BREAKs or Lv. Xs? Just tweak some things like the stats or add some kind of rule box to make things balanced if needed.

Probably not, since most megas are stage2s. Having to evolve essentially 3 times to get a mega is a pain in the ass. BREAKs overall flopped as a mechanic, the only good ones were greninja and trevenant because they got to item lock while having more HP. Plus putting a card on sideways is ugly, they wouldn't waste fan favorite megas on that again
Lvl x worked because they were like OG megas and Vmax/Vstar, by being basics that evolve into bigger basics

The way they did it now is good, sure you don't go from venusaur>mega venusaur lore wise but it sure as hell beats evolving 3 times just to get your mega. 3 prizes while isn't ideal is an ok trade off for not needing spirit link annoyance anymore.
As long as they don't make too many low maintenance energy megas like gardevoir/lucario, then it'll be alright. Otherwise any deck that can't OHKO them will get walled by wally full healing them. Which is pretty degenerate and incentives an OHKO meta

Depends on the deck, if you need the extra recovery. Most decks use night stretcher as their only pokemon/energy recovery nowadays it's that good.
The top 4 gardy deck in NAIC only had 4 stretcher, while 1st and 2nd has 1 super rod 2 stretcher. Top 3 dragapult list only had 2 stretcher. Even in decks like gardy which is all about recovering your stuff stretcher alone can be enough

Grimmsnarl? It doesn't work, it only attaches energy to marnie pokemon specifically
The only option you have for general dark acceleration right now is janine. (And the pokemon specific ones like sada for ancient pokemon and grimmsnarl for marnies)
Dark patch left last rotation so there's not too much acceleration for darks anymore besides janine

N's zoroark evolve fast, it has an ability that you discard a card and draw 2. That helps get out your other evolutions. It's a very good draw engine

Obviously the months directly following Mega Brave and Mega Symphonia will be incredibly degenerate with Mega Gardevoir, Jellicent ex, Gardy ex (and co.) and Mystery garden existing simultaneously but after that, wouldn't Mega Gardevoir just be the new crayon eater deck?

The gameplan is essentially just to flood energy on the board and hit with Mega Gardy, which feels really linear.

Drifloon, gardy ex and scream tail were pretty crucial components for Gardevoir to swing prize trades in its favor and generate damage counters for munki manipulation.

When those are lost Mega Gardevoir is essentially just a beatstick deck if nothing else gets added. That makes it a lot easier for Grimmsnarl to just counter the deck and stop it from winning all the time since it can just oneshot without needing to worry about a Wally.

No pal pad and no iono could be rough but there is still lots of potential with a zoroark draw engine to try and draw wally every turn.

It will yeah. Counter catcher is rotating too. It's pre-evo is fetchable with poffin and rotom.
DOWNSIDE is you can counter it with rockets watch tower. They did just print a new hariyama with the same ability, but wont be disabled by watch tower.

We'll see decks playing either of these depending on what they prefer. Dubwool is a lot safer/consistent but can be countered, but hariyama is guarantee but can't be poffin/rotom and can't use balloon to retreat.

Anyone tried running a coalossal deck since rotation? I´m trying to salvage my deck but missing radiant greninja and magma basin really wrecked my deck. I love this thing too much to give up but I´m running out of ideas on how to make it work again. Best I could manage was keeping armorouge and adding ethan´s hoho for some quick energies but it´s so slow and no draw engine I tried so far were of any use

If you meant energy finding then the OG energy search for 1 basically always gets reprinted. The new hilda supporter is search for an evolution+energy. There'll be ways, vessel was stronger than prior alternatives, it's not the norm baseline for energy searching.

the heavy baton is a good tool for it. with it, even if it dies the energy is not lost.
you need to use luminous energy + 2 fire energy and it counts as 3 fire energy for damage calc porpuses, making gatling tar do 280 damage which can ko most treats. the baton make it so the next coal could be ready immediatly for action.

Matte Dragon Shield Outers. They are bulky like everyone says and it makes shuffling a pain. I've spent hours trying to figure out the best method to shuffling them which is still cumbersome. If my hands were smaller I would definitely not be using them. The opening of the outers have developed a weird warping to them. Oh well. Online usually just runs the free decks, also ho-oh gets a lot better next set too. With reshiram and new special rainbow energy for basics

With this many options you can get 2 prizes every turn. Low HP active, Iron hands. Able to snipe, ogerpon. Dragapult, use clefairy.
The new reshiram can hit 330 if your opponent has taken 4 prize cards, 380 if 5. It's your late game nuke
