This is cope. SM was the only series to perform better than its predecessor, and JN did well enough to get Pokémon moved back to the more advantageous Friday slot. XY, SM, and even JN were also staffed better than Horizons, which has for all intents and purposes been fully abandoned by OLM in favor of seasonal animes. Horizons has the highest volume of consecutively outsourced episodes per series, with tons of poorly animated shit from companies that can barely draw.

People can get mad and turn it into an Ash thing or a woke thing or whatever, but the only actual reality to contend with is that Horizons is a big fat money hemorrhaging failure that nobody wants to work on and very few people want to watch. I don't give a Furret's fat ass about the particulars of if the children want Ash back or not, I just know for a fact that OLM needs something different from Horizons in order to make money and regain some semblance of success.
