An evolution with some more attack and defense. Maybe an ability like Huge power. Though that still wouldn't be quite as good as their mega. being able to Intimidate with Huge Power helped as well

Massive overhaul the combat system to be much more in depth and strategic so that all previous (im)balance based on the old systems is irrelevant. We will no longer be shackled to pondering trivial hypotheticals for that simplistic relic of a combat system.

Delphox
I would have it's base stat attack of 69 and take 10 from that to put into it's Sp. attack of 114 to make that 124
and take another 4 from it reducing it's base attack stat down from 69 to Fifty five sorry for wording it for some reason numbers five and six aren't working for me on this keyboard and put that 4 into it's speed stat which is already at 104 making it 108 base speed I do this because rarely does a delphox bother using physical code attacks nor does it have much use for them.

My second change is to increase it's movepool I want it to learn the following moves
Electro Ball
Energy Ball
Moonblast
Foresight
Aura Sphere
As for it's ability I'd like a an ability that increases ball moves by 10 percent or something that lets it get STAB off Fairy moves as well maybe it's alledged mega evolution will do that for us

Like, there’s a lot of good shit to work with here, Sawsbuck just needs a bit more to really stand out.
10 points in HP, DEF, and SPD would go a long way, and what I’d really like is a signature move that interacts with the season mechanic somehow.

It's still not leaving the bottom tiers, but hopefully this will give it some use outside of weather teams:

>Spa: 45->35
slight minmaxing since Alolan version has 25 Spa
>Spe: 65->85
>BST: 450->460
Since Sandslash can roll I wanted to give it just some more speed. Give the Alolan version +10 to one of the defensive stats instead since that cannot roll.

>gets Tough Claw
>learns U-Turn
>no longer learns High Horsepower
While Tough Claw is a meme ability similar to Sheer Force in the way that you could just slap these to any physical attacker, the ability is very fitting in this case and it's not even THAT powerful since your stab EQ doesn't benefit from this. Had to remove High Horsepower from learnset because it's apparently a contact move and so you'd be using Drill Run, a very fitting move, instead.
Even with Tough Claws you might still be better off using EQ anyway since the higher crit isn't worth it over the 5% to miss, 1.2 lower average base damage, and the downsides of making contact.

Tough Claws/Sand Rush and HA Multiscale to reference pangolin scales holding magic properties. Mystic Spin- fairy type rapid spin clone that clears hazards and sets misty terrain. Still wouldn't get out of RU but +4/+4/+4 shell smash is fun at least. Alternatively a custom ability that's basically steam engine but with water immunity, this would be lore-accurate ("water is vaporized on contact" - sapphire dex entry). This would be way less fun than simple but it's something.

There's no actual way to do this while still maintaining the game as a 1v1 occasionally 2v2 JRPG. Pokemon is already the most complex JRPG by vortue of mechanic bloat alone and the only one with pvp outside of its clones, which have always been less complex like Temtem.

I honestly don't think there's a silver bullet that will fix him short of meme answers like Pure Power. I thought about Geomancy but he unironically lacks the special movepool to get much out of it. Any Steel type would still wall him.

For a multi-stage solution I'll say Drought, Fire Blast and Growth. It's crazy we don't have a Grass type Drought mon yet anyway, may as well be the most abused Grass type starter since Meganium. It'd be nice to have a Grass type that can actually use Solarbeam.

if you want to go further in the romhack tier direction:

There is a very simple fix for Sceptile. Simply switch his attack and special attack stats. His offensive movepool becomes good. Swords dance becomes good. Leaf blade once again becomes good. Unburden and acrobat become good. The mega becomes good. Sceptile has gone from a mediocre leaf storm spammer to a fearsome late game threat with one minor tweak.

His physical movepool, while better than his special, is still surprisingly bad. He misses out on a lot of key sword moves, like Sacred Sword (Samurott gets this) or Stone Edge (Gyarados gets this). Despite the enormous tail he doesn't get Aqua Tail (Aggron gets this) or even Power Whip (Gyarados gets this). Swapping the attack stats might have made a difference back in gen 4 where they initially crippled him but it's too little too late now. Just a weird and very neglected mon, he gets a decent level of shilling in spinoff media but the main game fucking hates him.

It lacks the power to completely run away with games since Bug Buzz is the strongest thing it has, on the flipside however, you can't really wall it and it doesn't give a shit if you try and defensively answer it with Tera because Tinted Lens. I mean sure it would be a bit out of place for a fire type (and a starter at that) to learn bolt-beam but Tri-Attack fits so well as a Final Fantasy Black Mage reference that im genuinely surprised it doesn't learnt it.

my idea for buffing it:
>ground/fighting
>gets tough claws and scrappy
>and a BST increase/evolution so it has more HP, attack, and speed
so it becomes landorus at home at home with the unique property of completely giving gholdengo (and other spinblockers) the finger because scrappy would let it hit rapid spins against ghost types

snowslash gets tough claws and ice scales for obvious reasons

I don't think it needs coverage. It's a decently fast pokemon that can click Eruption. Hisuian Typh saw lots of usage because despite being slower, because it hits harder and has fake out immunity, and it didn't run any coverage.

Eruption pokemon want to click Eruption and nothing else, so the best way to make regular Typhlosion better is just make it better at clicking Eruption.

I like the romhack approach of giving Adaptability for being mono-fire. I know every single mon would love Adaptability, but it fits extra well on Typhlosion. That makes is considerably more powerful when using Eruption over Hisuian, for the tradeoff of being not immune to fake out.
