It's hard for me to see a pokemon being banned wholesale across an entire region. In certain protected areas with frail ecosystems, sure, but good luck enforcing bans on magical creatures that don't give a fuck about human borders across an entire country. I imagine trainers would be upset as well and would heavily push-back any bans against anything that's not incredibly destructive.

I'll usually let it simmer in my head over months and have music that inspires me to think of epic fights or emotional moments that seem fitting whether I'm walking or working out. Once I have a few of those big moments, it's more about building the world and fleshing out everything in between.

Being the hyper autist I am, I've had thoughts and ideas about what Pokemon media doesn't hit right (in my opinion), so I usually have a bit of a bank of stuff to pick from. For Prince of Po Town I had a couple ideas for the antagonist and actually came here for advice and got told to make it better (which was perfect). Someone in this thread said pick *insert generic villain here* and I was like "that's fucking retarded." Turns out that's the end villain now and I think it fits perfectly. The antagonist switched one more time before it just felt like it "fit." I have a pretty detailed outline that keeps the plot events lined up and on track, but I try to have the organic character moments pop in when it feels right. I keep documents tracking things like characters' Pokemon teams, important things on their person, story hooks with them, etc. There's also a main outline for the entire story, and I've been experimenting with outlines per-chapter as well. It would be an interesting (dystopian) concept if there's a region where people are really fed up with pokemon (because recently some pokemon leveled several town and caused lots of casualties etc. https://archive.palanq.win/vp/thread/57866763/#57876733) so only a few pokemon necessary for maintaining the ecosystem are allowed to exist (even harsher than the dex cut, something around Gen1's original number). Battling as a sport is disliked and having pokemon in public is only allowed if they're "harmless" or fulfilling a necessary role in society (like Chanseys in Pokécenters, Arcanines in law enforcement etc.)
Outlawed pokemon are either confiscated or - if necessary - taken down (again, it's a dystopian scenario).

In official tournaments they will allow some water in the arena for fairness.
Abilities that generate water and control the weather will make them more viable, there's also mobility moves like aqua jet.
Overall they are still disadvantaged on land but doesn't that make sense? Most land Pokémon would have trouble too in water.

Man, I'm thinking about populating my American region and it's a bit disappointing but also funny with how SMALL Unova is.
So far I have:
1. Gen 1 as canonical grunt pokemon (starters for NCOs, commonish mons like Rattata and Machop for grunts, etc.), inspired by three threads on the suptg archive. Also, Hitler researching the creation of the Uberpoke, as per the same thread. He doesn't make Mewtwo by the war's end however, that's up to Giovanni, as a deviantion from those threads. In addition, several war Pokemon like that beta Octillery.
2. Pawniard and Bisharp working with the 442nd Regiment in the European theatre (Go for Broke!). Therefore the list of Unovan pokemon must exist throughout America.
3. Normal, Fighting, Dark & Psychic (Cold War moment), and Poison (Arsenal of Democracy manufacturing -> Rust Belt) would be very common type switches for the regional variants. As per the 1996 pokedex translation by Nob, "In general, there are many filthy Pokémon but they are guilty of nothing. Instead, we should be thankful to them – they serve as mirrors that reflect how our way of life affects the world around us.” Western Pokemon will look and adapt very differently from natives in Kanto, Kansai, Kyūshū, etc., and even between states.
4. In the same Pokedex translation, Pokemon research started in the late 1700s with Baron Tajirin --- that's a shitton of time and major world events between then and NOW, so I have my fucking work cut out in worldbuilding with pokemon lol.
5. No creation myth legendaries (Gen 4+). I'm only going as far as Groudon and Kyogre being exploited by their respective Teams, and perhaps only Mew since it was found in S. America. Two Victinis would be extremely funny but that's pushing it. The lore is following the early generations where it's in the real world and "Pokemon have purpose" like Lapras giving rides on water and Rhydon moving heavy loads.

Should a Pokémon trainer be fit?

I'm not including aura in my story, but while getting lectured by a mentor character, my MC brings up if aura's a thing. Is it too insulting to readers/writers that like/use aura in their stories if the mentor just tears the whole concept of aura to shreds and laughs in the MC's face about it? I feel like that might be too heavy-handed. But part of this fic is getting my gripes out about the over-prevalence of certain things in Pokemon Fanfiction

Since human aura users are basically a critically endangered breed it makes sense that there'd be little tutorials or guidance on the nurturing and usage of it which will increase the chances of people crippling themselves with no guidance. Being instructed by aura using Pokémon like Lucario might seem like common sense but they are built very differently from a human so that could easily backfire and lead to crippling.
Meanwhile Human Psychics are apparent from birth with widely different levels of potential and are common enough for people to have schools on developing these powers further.

It would take an essay to give full details, but my old headcanon on "aura" was that a trainer could greatly enhance a Pokemon's power. I always try to keep Pokemon the focus of the battles in Pokemon, if the trainer is using Aura Spheres and doing jedi shit it kinda defeats the purpose (to me at least). The "Aura Channeler" as I call them in my headcanon basically channels their own life force into their Pokemon and unlocks significantly heightened capabilities. Super advanced ones can have their Lucario's Aura Sphere change types... They also serve as the bridge between spiritual sights with heightened spiritual energy aka Legendary areas or sacred spots (I haven't fleshed out this autism in a while so I'm having a hard time explaining it and my PC with it recently died).

But dynamax, even if it trades for speed, produces overwhelming power and bulk. Even if both combatants are dynamaxed their blows should still be spectacularly devastating. They are using so much power they change the weather with regular attacks, so the collateral damage would be high in places that aren't specifically built to handle them.

You gotta think of it like Power Ranger zord fights, or godzilla level kaiju brawls. Big flashy climaxes, or world shaking brawls. Or, for things like raid battles, full on 'heroes vs the dragon' style fights where the stakes are high and every member needs to be pulling their weight.

Different stories write their power systems in different ways. It's ultimately up to how you want that power to service your story. A benefit of having multiple power systems active at once is that it allows each one to fill a particular niche. One Piece is an example of a story with different power systems (fruits, haki, technology, magic...), and this lets different characters be useful for different situations.

Or if you want a unified power system it can be useful for giving the powers clear structure and rules. This lets you explore powers in a more tactical sense as the reader will be able to follow what is happening easier. Even if somebody pulls out some crazy power, both the characters and the readers already have a basic understanding of how those powers work on a fundamental level. This lets them more easily to sell 'ahah!' moments where another character uses a power to cleverly overcome a foe.

You can also mix these two styles, as each different power system in a broader story can have it's own concrete rules. But effectively conveying this takes more time.

But to answer your question more specifically, here is one way I might write each of your examples. Pretty much, I give each of them a niche, how one acquires or trains that power, and basic rules and logic that the powers should 'usually' follow. Its okay to not reveal all the rules to the reader, but silently following them will give a sense of believe ability to the powers. If you want to break the rules its a good idea to give proper weight (and eventual explanation) to such an occurrence.

Aura: Iconic - A power unique to the setting, this lends it very well to both following special rules and also being able to do unexpected bullshit. A physical product of the body with a more spiritual source. Technically anybody can train it, but certain mindsets lend themselves better to fostering its growth. Overall its a loose concept that people will be more forgiving if you experiment with it, and has a 'specialness' quality due to being unique to the setting.

Psychic: Familiar - A concept not unique to pokemon, giving it a berth of cultural identity to draw from. This is useful in that you don't have to explain much, you can say 'psychic' and the reader will immediately fill in the blanks for what that means with their own understanding. This makes them easier to insert into a story, but also means readers will be expecting things based on their own biases. Its less immediately flexible, because if you do something that goes against the reader's prebuilt understanding it can be jarring. And you can't control that bias, so plan accordingly. It is a more 'realistic' power than Aura because its components are real. The source is the brain, a real organ. It is also available to anybody technically, but gifted individuals have such an immediate advantage that most people don't realize this. This gives it a 'specialness' quality, but since its in other syories its a different kind of special. Special in the setting, but not as special to the reader.

Magic: Bullshit - Magic is both the most common and the most flexible of all of these examples because it is the most vague. Magic itself is not a system, its a concept. There are a lot of different systems of magic from super specific rulesets to the classic 'I ain't gotta explain shit'. Hell, the other power systems of pokemon can even each be called different forms of magic. But basic 'Magic' also has a prebuilt bias, so calling something specifically Magic builds off of this. In Pokemon it is rare and leans heavy into the bullshit side, able to do whatever the story needs without bothering to explain much. This works in a setting like the anime where it doesn't need anymore depth, but using it in a more serious work of fiction will stick out like a sore thumb if used without caution. Generally you want to figure out a balance between what it's capable of with how much 'logic' it requires. The more power and versatility it has the more explanation it demands to be believable. It can also be an internal or external skill, meaning you can have talent for it but with the right knowledge anybody can master it as well as anybody else if you choose.

Burst: Artifact - Power that comes completely from an external source from the user. This allows flexibility and restrictions in different forms than the other examples. There is a lot of flexibility in what the power system can do, but that flexibility is limited into very specialized powersets based on what crystal (the artifact) the user has access to. Also there is potential for anybody to easily use these powers with the only limit being able to acquire them. This lends itself well to giving characters new and interesting abilities frequently if need be while also being able to take those powers away just as easily. It also lends itself well to Donut Steel OC power fantasies as the narrowly defined yet versatile options give readers a simple 'I would pick this one' jumping board for their imaginations. The downside of this is that if these artifacts are common then they are going to eclipse other power systems with how easy they are to use, and if they are rare then they lose that flexible versatility almost to the point where they aren't even a power system.

Personally no. They could easily be written as a form of psychic powers, or even aura. But the unexplained "weird shit" is text book magic. Unexplained strangeness thats vague enough about whats happening that you can get away without explaining anything. Hell, with spooky ghost stuff its often better to leave stuff mysterious and unexplained. But like I said, if you are looking to have an explanation for it then it being a form of psychic expression is a pretty easy one to use. Ghosts and psychics fall under the same thematic 'paranormal' umbrella more than general magic does, and ghost and psychic already has a connection in pokemon already.

I'd say like 20 chapters or 100K words in (assuming these are actual chapter lengths and not 1k word BS chapters). Show you've done stuff and you've got a cohesive narrative going that isn't going to go on literally forever. Having a finished long fic in your repertoire should be a prerequisite (I know many of these writers don't have anything near that but paypigs have no standards).

my advice, unless having no og protag is super important, have him distracted by some change that occurred the SI didn't account for. That way you can still use their characters because honestly they don't have much personality in people's minds, so anything you write for them is going to be fair game, especially if you justify it with the world being slightly off.

Funny thing is i planned on having Sabrina being the SI's partner. She'd be a Faller so she'd have memory loss. Her and the SI would fall in love way later. But i decided to drop that idea.

The world is not very united, and you can find different rules for DemiMon from one town to the next.

There is a military centered around the major cities, they have some DemiMon at their use. No Major plans for them yet, but will develop one over time.

There is a Church, they worship the one true DemiMon. Their congregation is not allowed to use DemiMon at all. There are many other temples and religions based around different DemiMon.

In the past, Moloch was one of the most powerful DemiMon, with a large city build because of him.

There are definitely humanoid DemiMon, and DemiMon in general become more Humanoid as they get bigger. There are normal animals in the DemiMon world, and DemiMon are more like eternal entities who don't die of old age or reproduce.

I don't have a plan for werewolves, as that is more a human that becomes something, though I Guess you could argue the same is true of our Wendigo DemiMon. There are definitely wolf demimon though.
