I think we’re getting a bit closer to that slowly. Alola, Galar, and Hisui had the better approaches than the initial fairy roster/ fairy rebranded pokemon in general 6. Seems like they were more willing to mix in more folklore nonsense after initially playing it safe.
The shiinotic line seems to fill the “lure you into forest and kill you” archetype. Which is funny considering that parasect fight them for territory. Makes you choose between forests filled with zombie mushrooms or fae mushrooms.
Zorua got the changeling role instead of a fairy with the ultra moon entry saying they replace children. Great detail is that you can only encounter them outside the trainer school in the ultra games.
There’s the tapus also all being some flavor of fickle nature spirit/ polytheistic god asshole.
Wish they did more with the hatterene line since it checks a lot of boxes. Like they maul you if you feel emotional near them in the woods. Great concept. Cyrus wishes he could do what they do.
