I lost interest when I heard it was going to be in the modern day. Call me a pastfag if you wish, but back when all we knew was that we were rebuilding Lumiose City I assumed this was going to be set shortly after the ultimate weapon went off. I thought it'd have sort of a Renaissance-esc vibe and you'd be trying to help rebuild a civilization while dealing with the threat of wild Mega pokemon in the area.

Same for me somewhat, but for a different reason. Playing SV after PLA felt like a real step back in control and enjoyment of movement. The control you had while running and diving in Hisui made travelling fun even if the maps were smaller, and the ride pokemon felt better to control. I was hoping we'd get more of that, but from the trailers we have seen it looks like actually moving about the world is going to be less enjoyable. I doubt they are going to let us parkour all over the place, and even if they did it would be more fun in a less modern city.

The near future is such an uninteresting setting for pokemon. The franchise has always been slightly futuristic with some of its tech so unless you go to 3000 CE you won't notice a difference.

Honestly ZA looks rather shit at the moment, they are hiding things but it looks like a much more stripped down less fun version of SV. It's just one big city, so it's going to get old visually very quickly.

I think the reason why there's 2 Johto starters is because they wanted to give those 2 megas and not one to Incineroar or Primarina. Incineroar definitely doesn't need one. Logically doing starters one from each of gen 2, 5 and 7 again would avoid a double up from 1 gen but the mega choices in the end dictated the starters.
