Pokemon Horizons's true competition starts on October . Knwoing Toei, its animation definitely going to be better than OLM. Too soon to say anything about the character and story but the cast of Horizons is really not that special and there is no cultural icon like Ash Ketchum or popular game characters to compete with now.
