Ash always was shown as inexperienced but kind of creative fighter. From defeating Brock's Onix via water sprinklers in the gym to Charizard outfucking Gary's Blastoise by heating up battle arena. That's Ash's gimmick.

Speaking of which, have anybody notice something odd with Ash & Drew's battle? Taillow's ability was guts and it was before Hidden ability was a thing which mean Roselia 's stun spore should have activated gut and allow Taillow to defeat Roselia but that didn't happened.
