Being a patternfag, there were 8 gens to pick from, as Rowlet was only from the previous generation when PLA released.
Because Megas are a thing again, it was unlikely they would pick one that already had a Mega so that makes it 1 out of 6. Cyndaquil was in PLA, so that makes it 1 out of 5. Another patternfag, they don't want to use the same starters from that generation, so that makes it 1 out of 4.
It was therefore a choice between Chimchar, Tepig, Litten and Scorbunny.

Chimchar was a starter in BDSP back in 2021. The last time Tepig was a starter was in BW2 back in 2012.

I expect the Sinnoh starters to be Legends starters only after all the Unova and Alola starters have been used.

Why not though? Does the franchise always have to cater to the same overused and overhyped shillmons? Whatever starter you wanted will probably be featured in the future. This gives Game Freak a chance to "redeem" the starters you fags all complain about.
