Played at my LCS cup yesterday. 25$ for three standard packs and a Play! Pack + additional prizing for top cut. Not really getting your moneys worth, but cup participation prizing was always shit even before this clown market and I just wanted to play some serious games. When prizing out I joked with the owner and grilled him about the packs in his little dispenser; whether they were from a box and whether anyone had pulled an SIR yet. He gave me one pack from the dispenser and two from a booster box that had just been opened. Pulled the Ho-Oh and started joking about getting SIRs out of both the boxes only to immediately pull the Crobat from the next pack.

I was excited for its announcement, as I was thinking we'd see potentially the return of Dark Pokémon or even a Dark 151 set.
Ultimately its was a trainers pokemon set without a clear set identity, kind of a hodgepodge of different eras and stuff.
Not great.

My brother gave me a mint foil charizard, what grading service should I use to maximize value? PSA seems to be more popular and is more lax with their grading, while Beckett is cheaper but stricter.

We're not talking about mid-era shit. When we say vintage we mean one thing: WotC. That's it.
So when we talk about demand for vintage, we are talking about no one caring about sugi stock holos and old cards.

Problem is there wont be a generation trying to capture their childhood, because it simply never existed for them with pokemon cards because grown men ruined the hobby for kids. Everyone wants instant gratification for their cards, no care for long term damage.
Look at Dave Persin, hes already selling off his collection its been up for sale for a while now, and no one is buying it. Theres been offers on parts or pieces but no ones biting at all of it. He's basically what everyone hopes their bag will become one day, and guess what, its not moving instantly, not very liquid at all at that level.

Its not just kids being gate kept from cards. The media itself just sucks now. If you are growing up in the late 90s early 2000s, youd would be waiting all week just to watch an eipsode or two of pokemon on saturday mornings. And the show it self was infinitely better. When a new pokemon game came out it was a BIG deal, because each successive one was just pure sovl and somehow completely new and refreshing. but the biggest thing was the mystery. Rumors about going to space in emerald or rumors about how to get mew in kanto. Pokemon was something to be completely immersed in.

Nowadays? Kids have got 24/7 stimulation from the internet. The modern show sucks and they can just binge watch it and forget about it. The modern games suck. Events are all online. No sense of community around it. Theres no mystery about any secrets in any of the games. Now add on top of all of this, kids cant play the fucking card game anymore because a bunch of useless leeches decide to scalp full time instead of getting a job. Theres just no foundation to build nostalgia on later in life. No one will remember the music from gen XXXX, No one will care to go back and watch basically any of the episodes after DP. and certainly not after BW.

ETB sleeves are good for trade fodder and for less fancy collection cards. They're awful for play because of how quickly they wear down. And lately their quality has felt kind of inconsistent. The last few batches I've gotten feel a bit warped and have some excess space.

I see the PokéTubers are pretty up in arms about the alleged prolific charge back scam.
Its interesting to see the comment sections with people saying "scammers getting scammed".
Saw PokeVault talk about it, he seemed pretty miffed by those types of comments.
I don't think two wrongs make a right, and im not happy many of the PokeTubers got scammed. I hope justice prevails and everyone is made whole again.
But it was interesting, I was hoping these PokeTubers would reflect on themselves a bit more after being scammed and perhaps change their perspective on some of their own business practices.
They may not being actually scamming or doing anything illegal. But mystery bags are pretty anti-consumer and predatory as a practice. They exploit peoples ability to understand probability (lower IQ people) and it also exploits those with a inclination to gambling or gambling addiction. Which seems pretty exploitive and perhaps not illegal but still kind of scummy. For example in some countries scalping and mystery packs are illegal. One day they could in theory become illegal as well much like digital loot crates did. Basically you shouldnt need something to officially become illegal to dictate if you participate in scummy business practices or not. The box breaks as well, kind of scummy in my opinion. Charging a premium, keeping bulk, who knows whats happening swapping out of better centered cards post show or whatever. Pre-searched or scanned packs. Who knows. Any way I thought it was interesting that it still hasnt made them reflect at all on how they're perceived by a large segment of people, and how theyve justified it due to making a profit, which i imagine the person who allegedly scammed them probably also has in their own mind.
