the problem is that even with free steel energy (like a steel baby that doesn't exist) it's STILL a net loss on energy until it's gotten at least two swings off because you could have just put that energy onto whatever you're trying to ramp with dialga in the first place. ho-oh at least does enough damage to threaten KOs for the trouble it takes to set up, but dialga does a piddly 30 which means it's not even scratching a deck like espeon ex.
dialga is just an outdated card, it will never see the light of day again.

it's less about attacking cheaply and more about consistency. darktina is still top dog after all, and that deck needs a minimum 2-3 turns to actually do anything.
as the game continues to accelerate, consistency becomes more valuable than power because a single wasted turn generally is the difference between winning and losing. silvally is stronger than espeon ex, only worth 1 point, and is colorless so it can be ramped into a turn 3 swing, but even with gladion to search silvally, espeon ex is just way more consistent so it's the better deck.
stage 2 decks are the antithesis of consistency, so they're falling off hard.

But Incineroar is pretty consistent with baby mons, the problem is even if I almost always draw Incineroar with Cleffa, I get bodyblasted later. I can't stand 100 damage with Silvally and then tank the 130 damage from Rampardos. I can't stand 90 damage from Espeon and a 170 Silveon nuke later. It's not only consistency, these decks have multiple Pokemons that attack one after another while I build a deck around one single mon that has to somehow survive all this shit. Lillie can't heal it all, 140 damage isn't that great unless I draw Hau, and the deck space is too limited to add much else

It was a long process with 4 callbacks, but so worth it. The interview question that I'm really proud of was:

Yeah this. The moment a card releases with an absolutely broken effect if you can guarantee a heads, Will will be meta. Xatu is kind of in a weird place. They were obviously scared of it being broken and so they overcorrected to the point where it doesn't work. But I think Xatu can work in the future if it gets really, really good cards to pair it with. Typhlosion simply isn't good enough. It already has Sylveon compatibility so the future potential is there. But they could also just release an entirely different completely broken coinflip pokemon instead.

shiny reprints suck ass. of all the shinies i've gotten, only one has actually been usable and that was the shiny stokezard i pulled during SR. blastoise ex? venu ex? zapdos ex? yanmega ex? all completely unplayable trash cards that i already have better versions of from when those old sets were current.
pulling a supposedly rare card and seeing it's something i already have multiple copies of that's months out of date is not a good experience.

Blastoise and Venu were both trash, but Zapdos and Yanmega were both very good during their respective sets. I get what you're saying, but Zapdos and Yanmega at least were played in very good decks. Blastoise has never been anything, and Venu was a C tier deck at best.

I do agree that Shiny reprints are the worst thing that has happened to the game since STS killed godpacks. At least when Shiny pokemon were introduced, they were Shinies of current Pokemon. Whoever decided to turn the Shiny rarity into reprints rather than Shiny versions of current Pokemon should be fired, but in reality they probably got a promotion.
