I'm not trying to shit on this, but it just kind of feels like that aspect of pokemon is just kind of gone now with champions.

There's no reason to train your pokemon outside of competitive use. There's nothing in the mainline games that warrant breeding for IV's or EV training. So what's the point? For me training up my guys and breeding was a lot of fun. But now that aspect of the game is dead.

It's kind of like in WoW if you didn't have to level up your character and grind gear, you just selected everything you wanted in a menu and got teleported to a raid. Like there's more to the game than just end game raiding. The prep is part of the RPG experience. What's the point in having my almost perfect Zekrom or Palkia I spent hours training?

My Zekrom isn't any different from the rentable Zekrom. (I know Zekrom is ass in competitive anyway, that's not the point.)

I'm looking forward to champions, I just wish maybe there was still a reason to train. To feel like my mons are special...

I don't think they'll even be fully "sent" to Home. By the deliberate distinction in picrel between "deposit//withdraw" and "connect" I think it'll be more like Champions reads a box directly from Home but the Pokémon won't actually leave that box. Maybe Home just makes a copy of that Pokémon and adapts it to the stat system and filters out inelligible moves etc.

Scarlet and Violet had already completely killed breeding. The only reason left to breed pokemon is if you want a duplicate and can't just easily go catch one. You can change everything now except for gender. I guess there's still masuda method hatching for shinies, but outside of a few regional variants I don't know why you'd bother instead of using shiny sandwiches.

WoW is a game that requires you to gradually learn a character and their dozens of abilities over the course of leveling. You don't need a giant leveling tutorial for a fucking turned based kids game with 4 total attacks.

Training and breeding will be the alternative to grind and/or monetization. And potentially could be the only way to use "premium" mons like urshifu that is DLC only.

High doubt. Smogonites will stick with their unique formats that with all likelyhood won't be present in Champions. And VGC pro players will still appreciate the ability to change and test teams for free and putting alts so they aren't recognized.

Doesn't matter what smnogtards want, it's going to be shut down regardless. That's the whole point of champions. It's not to "take VGC out the games", it's not even to try and sell more Switch units (else they wouldn't have also allowed povvo mobiletards play it). The way to make grinding 'mons easier will be "buy a Home sub and use the core games to do so". the very fact they stated Home will be available (thus all the games that connect to it that allow you to build your battlemons will ALSO be available) to connect to proves that. It's possible these "leaks" are from people who had access to an early version of the Presents trailer which really only showed us VP. So they just made up a bunch of bullshit alongside the tiny bit of real info they knew from the trailer.

Presumably cosmetics (balltism, shininess, marks, etc.) won't be things you can change in Champions. You'll still have those.
