They compete in a surprisingly fun filler tournament. Basically it takes place on a flooded Roman arena, Ash and Misty both sweep Round 1 and then Misty crushes Ash despite getting trolled by Psyduck.
People only remember this arc for *that* photo of Kingdra. But the Gyarados fight, Chinchou debut, and even Corsola vs Qwilfish were all pretty fun
I think this might have even been the first episode of Pokeymons I ever did saw
