Dragon Quest is fun and don't take itself seriously. Pokemon has your best friend, strangers, townspeople and Pokemon fighting you as a player and doesn't test skills. Johto test my skills and I end up defaulting to using my Heracross and Gyarados to beat everyone. Pikachu had no skills aside from thunder spells, bigger thunder spells, tackle. Yangus can keep the monsters at bay
